Chapter 1
Two years had passed since Eliza Vance selflessly donated her corneas to Benson Moore. To impress the woman he once loved, Benson had personally driven Eliza to the nightclub that night.
As Benson held his beloved close in his arms, his gaze turned icy as he watched Eliza endure humiliation and scorn on the stage.
Later, in the privacy of the bedroom, he bound Eliza to the doorframe, sneering down at her. “Eliza, you’re nothing but a dog. You were three years ago, and you still are. Do you honestly think I’ll marry you? I only wanted your corneas. I bet you’d give them to me again.”
His laughter was cold and manic. “I win.”
Eliza slumped hopelessly against the door, feeling as though every last glimmer of light had vanished from her world.
With trembling fingers, she fumbled for her phone and sent a desperate message to her research supervisor: “Mr. Valdez, I’m ready to implant the super chip to erase my memories and become a confidential researcher.”
At that moment, all hope slipped away from Eliza.
From now on, Benson would no longer be a part of her life.
Inside the room, the bed shook violently.
The sound of a woman’s moans mingled with a man’s hurried breaths, sending jolts of pain through Eliza’s nerves.
Three years ago, to satisfy Benson’s lustful desires, Eliza had sacrificed her dignity. Even when utterly exhausted, she forced a smile and complied.
Little did she realize that her quiet, enduring love would only lead Benson to compare her to the women who danced at the nightclub.
With her eyes lowered, she whispered, “Yes.”
Benson’s face darkened as he gripped Eliza’s chin tightly. “You really are a bitch. Since you want it so badly, I’m going to make sure you enjoy it today.”
He roughly threw her onto the bed.
Isolde was about to speak when Benson barked at her, “Get out!”
Isolde dared not argue. She quickly grabbed her clothes and hurried out.
The moment the door slammed shut, Eliza’s anguished screams filled the room.
Ignoring her struggles, Benson tore at her clothes violently. “You’re blind and still trying to seduce other men? I really underestimated you.”
Tears welled in Eliza’s eyes. She bit her lip hard, determined not to make a sound.
Two years earlier, Benson had been in a terrible car accident that nearly took his life.
Eliza had fainted on the spot, and when she came to, Benson was permanently blind.
During that dark time, he refused to eat and threatened to take his own life, landing in the emergency room more than ten times.
Eliza’s love for him ran deep; she couldn’t bear to see him destroy himself. She couldn’t even imagine what would happen if he died.
So, she gave him her corneas.
Benson had promised to love and care for her forever.
How could there be so many shards of glass when the place was cleaned every day?
Isolde’s eyes gleamed with cruelty as she approached and slammed her foot down on Eliza’s hand.
Eliza gasped, pain shooting through her palm.
She tried to pull away, but Isolde pressed harder. “I heard you used to be an artist. Now that you’re blind, you might as well ruin those hands.”
Painting had once been Eliza’s dream, and even after losing her sight, she hadn’t given up. Just last month, she won an online award. Her hands were precious.
Eliza struggled to push Isolde’s foot off. “I haven’t done anything to you. You…”
Isolde laughed mockingly. “Well, we both love the same man, so we’re enemies. Eliza, let’s make a bet. Even if I ruin your hand, Benson will still side with me.”
Eliza clenched her jaw, withdrawing her hand from beneath Isolde’s foot in defeat. “You’re right. Benson doesn’t love me anymore.”
In truth, he never had. It was all just a dream she had been foolish to hold onto.
Isolde smirked triumphantly. “Then I win. And your punishment is rolling down the stairs.”
With that, she yanked Eliza’s hair and dragged her across the floor littered with glass shards.
The sharp fragments tore into Eliza’s clothes and skin, and the searing pain made cold sweat break out on her forehead.
She fought back, trying to grab Isolde’s arm, but in the next moment, Isolde kicked her, sending her tumbling down the stairs.
