Ditching Me for His 'Soulmate'? His Loss. Next Stop: My New Life novel Chapter 54

Chapter 4

The day I was finally discharged from the hospital, I picked up my phone and dialed Samuel’s number.

As soon as he answered, his voice cut through the silence with a sharp edge of irritation.

“Emily, why can’t you just drop this already?” he snapped.

“You were so stubborn the other day, and now here you are, crawling back to me?”

His words stung, but what came next was even worse.

“Let me be perfectly clear—unless you apologize to Lily, don’t expect me to forgive you.”

Before I could even get out the word “divorce,” the line went dead, replaced by the cold buzz of the dial tone.

Almost immediately after, I saw that Lily had posted a new photo on Instagram—her and Samuel at the mall, smiling and laughing together.

In the picture, Samuel’s face was soft, his eyes warm in a way I hadn’t seen from him in years.

But with me, he was always distant, cold, like I was a stranger.

I sat alone at the hospital’s discharge desk, quietly signing the paperwork, while nurses passed by, shooting me sympathetic glances.

Just as I pushed open the heavy hospital doors and stepped outside, a voice called after me.

“Emily.”

I turned around, puzzled. A man stood there, introducing himself calmly.

“I’m Jason.”

He hesitated for a moment, then continued, “Emily, about the lab explosion five years ago… do you want to know the truth behind what really happened?”

My heart sank at the mention of that tragic day—the event that had changed everything. My face darkened.

“What truth? The police closed the case years ago.”

Right after the explosion, the lab supervisor had been arrested. He had confessed and was sentenced to ten years. The matter was considered settled. What else could there possibly be?

Jason looked me in the eyes, his gaze steady and serious.

“The lab supervisor was my father.”

No wonder the case had been closed so quickly and quietly.

From the very start, it had all been part of Samuel’s twisted plan—a plan to kill me and take control of my company.

The man I had once loved was nothing more than a monster hiding behind a familiar face.

A cold shiver ran through me, quickly replaced by a burning wave of hatred.

I stared at Jason, who had come to me with this truth, his eyes shining with a fierce determination.

“What are you suggesting?” I asked, my voice barely steady.

Jason’s gaze was fierce, filled with a hunger for justice.

“Samuel destroyed my family and took your arm.”

“Why don’t we join forces and make him pay for everything he’s done?”

He reached out his hand to me.

After a moment of hesitation, I took it and gave a firm shake.
