Ditching Me for His 'Soulmate'? His Loss. Next Stop: My New Life novel Chapter 57

Chapter 7

Two months had quietly slipped away, and Lily was finally savoring the tender moments of her blossoming romance with Jason. The world seemed brighter, each day filled with hope and the thrill of new love. But just as she allowed herself to feel safe and happy, an anonymous post suddenly appeared on the company’s forum, shattering her fragile peace.

Whispers and rumors ignited like wildfire through the office halls. The post claimed that Lily was involved with multiple men simultaneously, that she was being supported lavishly by wealthy businessmen. The words spread quickly, and soon, the entire workplace buzzed with malicious gossip.

Lily felt as if she were sitting on a bed of needles, every glance from her coworkers piercing her skin. The accusations stung deeper than she expected.

“That gold-digger!” someone sneered.

“My best friend was one of her victims,” another whispered bitterly.

“She spent all that money on her, only for Lily to turn around and flirt with every guy she sees,” a third voice chimed in.

“I saw her at my dad’s gala, clinging to some rich guy like her life depended on it,” someone else added.

At first, Lily tried to dismiss these as baseless rumors, but the words echoed relentlessly in her mind. It was as though the entire office had turned against her overnight.

Her cheeks flushed with a mix of shame and anger. She faced her colleagues, her voice shaking but resolute. “None of this is true! I have never done any of those things!” she declared, her hands trembling slightly. “When I find out who started these lies, they will regret it.”

Before she could say more, Jason stepped forward from the crowd. His expression was heavy with disappointment, his eyes dark and stormy. Without uttering a single word, he raised his hand and struck her across the face with a sharp slap.

“Lily, you liar!” he spat bitterly. “I was a fool to trust you!”

Lily’s heart pounded wildly in her chest, panic rising like a tidal wave. She grabbed Jason’s wrist, desperation making her voice spill out in a frantic rush. “Jason, please, listen to me! Someone is setting me up! I swear, I’ve never done anything to hurt you. You’re the only one in my heart!”

Jason’s voice cracked, tears streaming down his face as he looked away briefly, then back at her with a cold glare. “Still lying?” he whispered.

Meanwhile, Samuel’s call was no accident. Through their prior arrangement, he had just learned about what he believed was Lily’s betrayal. The thought of all he had sacrificed for her, only to be stabbed in the back, filled him with bitter rage.

As soon as the call connected, Samuel’s voice came through sharp and commanding, slicing through the silence.

“Lily, how dare you betray me?!” he demanded. “I gave up everything for you, and this is how you repay me? Do you think that just because I’m down, you can climb onto someone else’s ladder?”

“Don’t forget,” he warned, “you still own shares in my company. You’re not going anywhere.”

Samuel had intended to pressure Lily into confessing, hoping to force her into admitting her supposed wrongdoing. After all, he once cared for her deeply.

But to Lily, his harsh words only confirmed her worst fears. It really was him behind all this.

Suppressing her anger, she softened her voice, making it almost pleading. “Samuel, you’re wrong. Please, let me explain everything in person. Can we meet the day after tomorrow?”
