Ditching Me for His 'Soulmate'? His Loss. Next Stop: My New Life novel Chapter 76

Chapter 8

In that very moment, it was as if a switch flipped inside Silas. His gaze sharpened, cold and unforgiving, locking onto the woman who had shattered everything he once called home.

Rebecca stood frozen too, her finger trembling as she pointed accusingly at Silas.

“You… you…” she stammered, struggling to find words.

After a tense silence, Rebecca’s expression suddenly shifted, settling into a calm, almost chilling composure.

“Silas Duncan,” she said steadily, “if you’re going to be so heartless, then I see no reason to pretend otherwise. Give me fifty million dollars, or I’ll expose your secret patent development at Starlight Industries to the National Research Institute. And after that, I’ll accuse you of rape.”

Silas’s eyes narrowed. He paused, then slowly rose to his feet.

“Rebecca Brown, you’re truly ruthless. When exactly did I ever rape you?” he demanded.

Rebecca’s response was a bitter laugh, tears streaming freely down her cheeks.

“What do you mean, when? I’m carrying your child. That’s all the proof anyone needs.”

Without hesitation, Silas lunged forward, grabbing Rebecca by the throat with a fierce grip.

“You’re lying! It was those animals who did this to you! You’re carrying their child, not mine!” he growled.

Yet Rebecca’s smile never faded.

“Silas Duncan,” she said softly, “if I told you this was all a lie, would you slap yourself to death?”

He faltered, caught off guard. “A plane full of people, and they only kidnapped me. How do you explain that?”

Silas’s grip loosened gradually, his mind racing. He had risked five million dollars and flown through the night to rescue a venomous snake—him.

Still, he refused to give up hope.

“What about your scars? Those can’t be fake, can they? And the baby… I never touched you. How could you possibly be pregnant?” he asked, voice trembling with confusion.

Rebecca’s laughter finally died away. She sank calmly onto the sofa, her posture relaxed but her eyes sharp.

Mr. Davis consented, offering Rebecca twenty million in compensation and arranging for her to live abroad, all in exchange for three years’ worth of Silas’s patents.

Rebecca, now flush with the initial five million plus the recent windfall, had more than enough money to live comfortably for the rest of her days. Facing Silas’s murderous glare, she accepted the deal without protest and quietly left.

The three of them sealed the agreement with smiles and signatures, raising their glasses in a fragile toast to their success.

But just as the celebration began, a massive scandal exploded across every major news outlet.

“Scientist’s Assistant Lays Elaborate Honey Trap, Seduces Expert into Illegally Selling National Patents,” the headlines screamed.

“Top Researcher Divorces Wife for New Bride in Major Cash Grab,” read another.

Beneath the bold titles were Rebecca’s text messages and bank statements, meticulously detailing the entire scheme, alongside proof of Silas’s clandestine profit-sharing deal with Starlight Industries.

Within the hour, eighteen news agencies had picked up the story, sending the internet into a frenzy.

The National Security Agency swiftly assembled a special task force to launch a full-scale investigation.
