Chapter 9
Sterling didn’t even glance in her direction, treating her as if she were nothing more than a worthless piece of trash cluttering the space. His disdain was palpable, cutting through the air like a sharp blade.
“Now, get this woman and the filth she dragged in out of here. The Ritz-Carlton will never serve them again,” he ordered coldly.
Security personnel immediately sprang into action, roughly hoisting the limp Sage along with the men who were still sprawled on the floor, dragging them out like lifeless carcasses without a hint of mercy.
Reed was also “escorted” out of the lobby. Just before he disappeared through the doors, he turned back, his gaze locking onto me with a depth that was almost painful to witness.
That look was a tangled mess of emotions—shock, regret, fury at being deceived, but above all, a raw panic as he finally grasped the enormity of what he had lost.
As I watched their pitiful forms retreating, a flood of resentment that had been simmering inside me for two long years finally burst forth, finding release through Sterling’s relentless and thunderous actions.
“Willa, your father knows you’re staying at this hotel and specifically sent me to bring you home,” Sterling said softly, his arm sliding around my shoulders. His voice was low and gentle now, a stark contrast to the coldness he had shown moments before.
“Let’s go home.”
The instant we stepped out of the hotel, Reed was still there, standing at the entrance like a ghost from the past. His eyes were filled with complicated emotions as he hesitantly spoke.
“Willa… you… are you really—”
Sterling cut him off sharply, his tone icy once again.
“Mr. Harrison, Willa’s name is not for you to use. What you should be worrying about is how to handle the double assault that Lynn Corporation and the Whitmore family are about to launch against your Harrison company.”
“After all, offending my fiancée comes with a price, doesn’t it?”
Sterling’s words rang out like a final verdict, a warning that left no room for negotiation.
True to his word, Sterling acted swiftly. Sage’s mother was soon arrested and imprisoned on charges of theft, backed by irrefutable evidence.
The Whitmore family wasted no time distancing themselves, issuing a public statement severing all ties to protect their reputation. Sage was completely cut off, her accounts frozen without mercy.
I couldn’t help but laugh, a cold, bitter sound.
“Reed, you really are something else. Tell me, what about you makes you worthy of me now?”
“You have nothing left, and you want me to be your ticket again? Sorry, but I find you disgusting now. You irritate me.”
“Besides, why would I choose a penniless nobody like you over the CEO of Whitmore Group? I’m not blind.”
Hearing that, he left defeated, but every day afterward, he would stand outside my apartment building, clutching that same big bouquet of roses, begging me to take him back.
Then, one day, he vanished completely from my life.
Sterling later told me that Reed had gotten together with Sage.
Because Sage was pregnant.
