“I need to call his mom and figure out what’s going on. It’s already March. Did she just leave him behind?” Jonathan’s voice carried a mix of frustration and concern.

“No, she’ll be back by the end of the month, Teresa quickly replied. “I take him back to her then. Or do you not like having bim around?”

“It’s not that I don’t like Mike,” Jonathan said with a sigh. “But I can’t get in touch with Christian, and I have no idea what’s going on with his family. Leaving the kid with you all the time isn’t a long–term solution”

Teresa lowered her head, avoiding his gaze, her voice barely above a whisper. “I take him back at the end of the month. You won’t have to deal with him anymore.”

Jonathan noticed her reaction and chose not to press further. Instead, he picked up her luggage with one hand and said softly, his voice tinged with concern, “Come on, let’s go inside.”

“Just take the 10 thousand I sent you,” she said

Jonathan’s gaze sharpened, a flicker of irritation crossing his face. Teresa, however, was resolute. She couldn’t stay here for free. She considered it a short–term rental, nothing more

Seeing her stubbornness, Jonathan reluctantly accepted the money, already planning to return it to her during the next holiday, disguised as a gift.
