They’d driven a few miles when Teresa suddenly grabbed Jonathan’s arm. She’d forgotten her insurance card.
“I got it for you,” Jonathan said, glancing at her hand before pulling the card from his pocket.
Teresa took it, puzzled. “When did you grab it?”
“You left it on the coffee table. I was checking if you’d remember, and sure enough, you forgot. Your memory is terrible. I can’t trust you out alone. You’d be easily fooled if someone tried to trick you.”
Teresa sighed. “My memory is usually great. This was just a fluke.”
“I bet pregnancy brain lasts for several years,” Jonathan teased with a smirk, slowing down over the speed bump.
Soon, they arrived at the hospital entrance. Teresa carefully got out of the car, and Jonathan was right there, steadying her with a hand on her waist.
“There’s no need. I’m not that delicate,” Teresa insisted.
“There are a lot of people at the hospital. It’s necessary for me to hold you,” Jonathan said.
Meanwhile, Jennifer had just stepped out of her office, planning to grab a cup of coffee to perk herself up. When she spotted Jonathan with Teresa, her face darkened, and she strode over.
“Teresa,” she said casually, acting like she’d never left Teresa and Michael behind that day. “What’s going on? Hanging out with your ex again?”
“I’m her guardian now. Is it wrong for me to bring her to the hospital?” Jonathan shot back.
Teresa glanced at him, confused.
Jennifer let out a cold laugh. “My sister is an adult. She doesn’t need a guardian–especially not you, her ex–husband.”
“What goes on between her and me isn’t for you to decide,” Jonathan said as he pulled out his phone.
“I should give Donald a call. How can a doctor who breaks medical ethics and has no sense of decency still be sitting here? Does he really think apologizing to me makes everything okay?”
Jennifer’s face twisted in shock. She hadn’t expected Donald to actually go to Jonathan for her sake. ‘How could Donald do something humble like that?‘ she thought.
“Forget it. I won’t call Donald,” Jonathan continued. “I’ll go straight to your hospital director and ask how he’s handling your misconduct. How dare you still sit there, tarnishing the honor of being a doctor?”
Jennifer’s already twisted expression grew even darker. “Are you really going to meddle in everything? Can’t I just cover a shift for a colleague for one day?”
With that, Jennifer grabbed Teresa’s arm, pulling her along a bit roughly. “Come on, get inside. Let me handle your exam.”
Jonathan pulled Teresa closer, wrapping his arm protectively around her shoulders. “We’ll find another doctor. I don’t trust an unethical doctor to examine my child. Who knows what you might try to pull next?”

Jennifer looked deeply embarrassed.
Teresa frowned, pain flashing across her arm from Jennifer’s grip. She blurted out, “Let go of me.”

As Jonathan saw Teresa’s discomfort, his expression turned colder. “Let her go, unless you want me to expose your scandals right here. Or should I just call Donald and have him come over? At this point, I owe neither you nor Donald any courtesy.”
The moment Donald’s name came up, Jennifer gritted her teeth and finally let go of Teresa.
Jonathan held Teresa close, not bothering to be polite as he warned Jennifer, “You have two days to get your resignation paperwork done. Otherwise, it won’t be as easy as just walking away.”
He turned to Teresa. “Alright, let’s go.”
Teresa looked at Jonathan, confused. “What’s with you today? You’re acting like you’re all fired up or something.”
“She kicked you and Mike out of the car. How could I just stay silent about it? What, does she think I’m some spineless dad?” Jonathan deliberately raised his voice, making sure everyone on the floor could hear him.
Jennifer also heard that, and her expression darkened again.
A few passing nurses caught his words, shooting Jennifer curious looks and whispering behind her back.
“Wow, how could Dr. Nelson be so heartless? She actually kicked her own sister out of the car,” one of them whispered.
“Well, isn’t she always cold and distant? Have you ever seen her be nice to anyone?” another nurse whispered.
“Still, she can’t treat her own sister like that. Look, her sister’s pregnant,” a third one chimed in.
“Yeah, kicking a pregnant woman out of the car–what kind of sister does that?” the first one replied.
Jennifer clenched her fingers tightly and suddenly spun around, shooting the nurses a fierce glare. Only then did they scatter.
With a loud bang, Jennifer slammed her office door shut in frustration. Inside, she clenched her fists tightly, grabbing her phone to call Donald and complain.
But she stopped herself. ‘No, I can’t throw a tantrum at Donald right now. I have to hold onto the last shred of dignity I have left in front of him,‘ she told herself.

At the gynecology department, Jonathan had another doctor check Teresa. The checkup confirmed the baby was healthy, but she needed rest and better self–care. The doctor told her not to push herself too hard and said she showed signs of mild malnutrition.
Jonathan kept a close watch the whole time, making sure he was there for every part of the exam, never leaving Teresa’s side for even a
moment.
Teresa turned to Jonathan. “Did our son tell you Jennifer kicked me out of the car?”
Jonathan gave her a helpless look. “Should I rely on you? You tell me nothing. You’re so foolish. She isn’t even your real sister. Why let someone like her manipulate you?”
Teresa hesitated, too proud to admit the truth. “I still can’t be sure if she’s my real sister. When we argued in the car, both were angry, and we had a fight. That was why she did that. Just leave it. It’s not your concern.”
“If ignore this, she’ll keep pushing,” Jonathan said coldly. “You bought her that car, and you’re pregnant. Besides, our son was in the car too. She threw all three of you out like it was nothing. Does she really think I won’t sue her?”
