Divorcing My Husband Over His Stepsister's Secret novel Chapter 319

Chapter 319

Blake’s POV:

I stared at Anna, her question hanging between us. Her face was pale, eyes wide with disbelief and disappointment.

Blake, did you do this?she repeated, barely above a whisper.

Do what exactly?I asked neutrally.

Anna’s hands trembled as she held up her phone. Claire’s accident. Did you have anything to do with it?

I laughed softly, She wasn’t dead or seriously injured, was she? Didn’t you say yourself that you hoped she’d learn a lesson?

When I reached for her cheek, Anna flinched away. The rejection stung deeply.

SheAnna’s voice cracked. She’s your sister, Blake. And I was just talkingI didn’t actually mean anything by it.

My expression hardened. After everything she’s done to us, I wouldn’t even feel bad if I killed her.

Anna’s face drained of color. I needed to explain better.

I reached for her icy hand. From now on, anything you want done, I’ll do it for you,I promised intensely. You hate her, you want revengeI take every word you say to heart.

Looking directly into her eyes, I continued, I have never had any inappropriate feelings for Claire. Never.

Anna stared at me, shocked. Youyou know about that too?

Of course I do. I’m not blind now, Anna.

This isn’t right, she whispered, pulling her hand away. If Claire did something wrong, she should face legal consequences. Not thisnot whatever you

did.

Her voice rose. What if she had been killed? Did

you think about that?/

I calculated everything precisely,I replied coldly. I know what I’m doing.

Anna tried to escape, but I caught her, wrapping my arms around her too tightly. She winced.

Anna,I said, my voice breaking. What do you want from me? did this to make you happy. Isn’t that what you wanted?

She shook her head, tears forming There’s a chasm between us, Blake. A massive gulf that can’t be filled just with feelings. If you truly wanted to help me get justice, why choose this path? You don’t actually understand what I want at all.

Her words cut deep. Anna, have you ever considered what it does to me when you’re so determined to push me away? How much I can bear?

Her body stiffened in my embrace. We stood there, supposedly in love, yet completely disconnected.

You judge me so harshly,I said, releasing her. Buy Seth gets a free pass. You never question his motives.

That’s not true-

It is true,I interrupted. You don’t care about my intentions. If I deviate slightly from your perfect moral standard, you condemn me completely

I laughed bitterly. Last night, when you let me hold youI was so happy. I thought you were finally accepting me back.

The realization hit me hard. It’s because it’s me, isn’t it? Nothing I do will ever be good enough. You simply hate me, don’t you?

Chapter 319

She shook her head helplessly.

I turned toward the door, defeated. You make me feel ridiculous. I was dreaming, and i woke up far too quickly.

My fingers lingered on the doorknob, hoping Anna would stop me.

Finally, she spoke flatly. Blake, just go.

I remained frozen.

Yesterday was just a dream, she continued. And now that we’re awake, we need to go back to our respective places.

The pain was unbearable. I pulled her back against my chest.

Damn it, who says I want to go back to my place?I growled. My place is right here, with you!

She pushed against me gently but firmly, resignation in her eyes.

My phone rang. Claire’s name flashed on the screen.

Blakey, Claire sobbed. Please help me. The doctor told me my leg is badly injured and might need to be amputated. I’m so scared. I’ve learned my lesson, I promise. Please

I stood motionless as Claire continued crying.

Anna’s face went completely white. Go see her,she said quietly. She needs you.

I stared at her, then laughed bitterly. Fine. If that’s what you want.

Anna’s POV:

The door closed behind Blake with a soft click. I stood in the middle of the room, feeling strangely calm despite the turmoil inside me.

I sank onto the couch, my legs suddenly unable to support me. Blake had never been a good mannot in the traditional sense. I’d always known that.

He was ruthless in business, uncompromising with enemies, and fiercely protective of what he considered his. But this calculated cruelty toward Claire shocked me to my core.

What if Claire had been seriously injured? Or worse? Blake would face legal consequences, possibly prison. The thought made me shudder.

Was I wrong? The question echoed in my mind. I couldn’t condone what he’d done, no matter how much Claire might have deserved some form of justice. There were lines that shouldn’t be crossed, and Blake had leaped over them without hesitation.

The next day, my phone buzzed with an incoming call. Michael’s name flashed on the screen.

Hello? My voice sounded hoarse even to my own ears.

Anna, I need you to come to the hospital, Michael said, his tone professional but gentle. We need to take your statement regarding Claire’s accident.

She’s still claiming I was involved?

Yes. We need to clear this up.

I sighed. I’ll be there. Claire shouldn’t be the only one telling her version of events.

Are you okay? You sound terrible.

I’m fine, I lied. Just a bit under the weather.

Chapter 319

Emily and your lawyer are already here,Michael added. They’re waiting for you.

A small warmth bloomed in my chest at the thought of my friends rallying around me. Thank you, Michael. I’ll be there soon.

I hung up and forced myself to stand. My body protested, still weakened from my fever. By the time I reached my car, I was already sweating.

The drive to the hospital passed in a blur. My mind kept replaying Blake’s words: I wouldn’t even feel bad if I killed her. The cold calculation in his voice had chilled me to the bone.

When I pulled into the hospital parking lot, I spotted Michael waiting near the entrance. He hurried over as I stepped out of the car, his brow furrowing with concern as he steadied me.

You look terrible,he said bluntly. Are you sure you’re up for this?

It’s just a cold,I assured him. What’s going on with Claire?

Michael guided me toward the entrance. The driver was drunk, that much is clear. But Claire is insistent that you arranged the whole thing.

And do you believe her?I asked, searching his face.

Michael’s expression softened. The Anna I know wouldn’t do something like that.

I felt tears prick at the corners of my eyes. Thank you for believing in me.

We made our way through the hospital corridors until we reached Claire’s room. The door was partially open, and I could see Blake standing by her bedside, his brow furrowed deeply as he looked down at her.
