"Hey now," Jennie whined softly, leaning closer. "No scolding. Just enjoy the show. You can yell at me after we're done with these two clowns."
Juniper shook her head with a helpless smile. What a little schemer!
Jerrold looked up at the phone screen, where comments from the live stream were scrolling by at lightning speed.
[Is this guy for real? He was all talk when he was hitting on another girl, but when it’s time to pay for his own fiancée, he shuts up?]
[He's a Lonsdale, for crying out loud. Don't tell me he can't afford it?]
[He can, so what's the hesitation?]
[Oh my god, is he broke? I thought the youngest Lonsdale son was the family favorite!]
[Favorite? He's got several older brothers.]
[Hitting on his fiancée's sister right in front of her. Seriously, what a creep.]
[They call him the youngest Lonsdale son, but I swear he only appeared on the scene in his teens. Am I the only one who finds that weird?]
[Could he be an illegitimate son?]
The comments were getting more vicious, dangerously close to exposing his secret. Gritting his teeth, Jerrold finally gave in. "I'll pay for Yolanda."
"Wow, Mr. Lonsdale is such a devoted fiancé!" Jennie exclaimed, clapping dramatically with a smirk. "Card, please."
The manager hurried over with the payment terminal. A few beeps later, the transaction was complete.
Jerrold's hands were balled into tight fists. He glared at Jennie. "Can you turn off the live stream now?"
"Of course." With their goal achieved, Jennie gestured to the employee, who promptly ended the broadcast.
"Jerrold..." Yolanda breathed a sigh of relief and moved to take his arm.
SLAP!
"Yes," Jennie nodded, her eyes welling up. Ever since she'd won her award, everyone had been praising her endlessly. Only Juniper pointed out her flaws.
After Juniper left, Jennie turned to her staff, her expression cold. "You're all fired."
Then, she sent an email to her executive team with a simple subject line: "Temporary Closure for Reorganization."
...
Meanwhile, across town, Shanley was just finishing a meeting when he saw Flint staring intently at his phone.
"Boss, Ms. Payne was in some trouble. But she—"
"What happened to Juniper?" Shanley snatched the phone before Flint could finish. His eyes scanned the screen, which showed a replay of the live stream with countless comments floating over it. But his gaze locked onto one sentence in particular:
[Master Lunar was hit on by a man!]
