They chatted for a bit longer before ending the call.
Bethany put her phone away and thought about her cancer.
For seven years, she worked nonstop for her family, never taking
a break.
She married Terrence without a wedding, a ring, or a
honeymoon.
Even when he took Emery to the amusement park or on trips,
she had to stay out of sight.
No matter how cold he was to her, she always smiled.
And when she saw him write Krista’s name on paper, she
pretended not to notice.
Seven years ago, when he walked up to her with strong, steady
steps and said he wanted to marry her, she thought he recognized
her.
It wasn’t until after they got married that she found out he didn’t.
But by then, she didn’t care anymore. She thought now that she

It was no big deal.

Bethany was browsing travel tips online when a news alert
popped up on her phone.
“Anime Master Ms. Cassie Guzman’s National Tour Exhibition –
First Stop: Southmount Stadium.”
She clicked on it and saw that the comic convention was in three
days.
Without a second thought, she bought a ticket online.
Then, she booked a flight to Southmount for tomorrow.
She seldom went back to her hometown, and today, she was planning to visit her grandma’s grave.
