Chapter 253
When we ate before, Mom always peeled the shrimp and put
them in Dad’s bowl.
Terrence saw Bethany offer to peel shrimp for him, and he
actually felt great.
Krista suddenly put down her fork and said, “Terrence, I’m done
eating. I’ll go back first.”
Terrence gave a soft mm.
Emery held Krista’s hand and said in a cute way, “Krista, you
just promised me you’d stay with me tonight until I fall asleep
before you leave.””
Bethany put down her fork and signed to Krista, “Grown–ups
can’t break promises to kids, Ms. Gilbert should stay.“”
Terrence frowned. Didn’t she really dislike Krista staying at
their place?
Did she figure it out? Was she ready to go back to her old life?
This was the first time Bethany talked to Krista on her own, and
Krista really wanted to know what Bethany’s motive was, so

she decided to stay.
“Alright then, I went to hang out with Emery first.”
Emery happily pulled Krista upstairs.
Terrence took a shrimp and was about to keep peeling when
Bethany signed, “I won’t eat either, no need to peel more, I’ll go
shower first.”
She got up and went back to her room.
She took her phone out of her bag, grabbed some clean clothes,
went into the bathroom, and locked the door behind her.
There were quite a few unread messages on my phone.
Kyson texted her and asked, do you need me to step in and help?
There was also the one Cassie sent.
After what happened that day, Cassie felt pretty guilty and
asked if she and Terrence were really getting a divorce.
The rest was what Julio sent over.
“Dummy, actually you really didn’t have to worry about the
Mendez Group at all… If you gave up your own future just
because you were afraid of dragging the Mendez Group down,

I’d feel really guilty.”
“I really wasn’t afraid of Terrence at all, I made up my mind, I
cut ties with my family, and I was going to go abroad with you.
tomorrow.”
“If Terrence locked you in the house, you told me, no matter
what way I used, I would get you out.”
“Dummy, reply to my message.”
Bethany held her phone tightly.
She and Julio had known each other since they were kids.
After her mother died young, her father abandoned her and
disappeared without a trace.
And Julio was from a single–parent family back then, his mom
had him before getting married.
Julio used to get into fights. One time, Presley taught him a
lesson and hit him with a stick. He ran out alone, and Bethany
got worried about him, so she followed him.
He ran to the lake and threw stones, mumbling, why don’t I
have a dad? I want a dad too.
