Irvin’s eyes dodged a bit. He couldn’t take Bethany staring at

him, so he finally said, “It was my good son–in–law. He saw I was

in a bad spot and said I’d be out of prison soon. He wanted to see

if he could help me get out earlier.”

“Didn’t mention any other requests?”

“No, no, he didn’t ask for anything, he’s my son–in–law, you

know. He said you were talking about divorcing him, so he

wanted to be nicer to me, hoping to win you back.”

Irvin was also a headache.

Bethany said in a serious voice, “I’ll go back and tell him today,

you don’t need him to do these things, whatever he gave you, I

can give you too, there’s no way I’ll get back together with him,

you can’t accept his kindness.”

Bethany didn’t want to have anything to do with Terrence

anymore.

“Beth, listen to me, I thought he was pretty good, rich and good-

looking. Why did you want a divorce? Wasn’t it good to marry

him?”

“Alright then, is it okay to let you get married?”

“I did want to get married, but I’m a man, and I’m already getting

old. You’re a young woman–if you married well, that would

change your fate. Be good, don’t make a fuss about divorce,

okay?”

So he really came to bribe her father, what a jerk.

“If you still wanted to see me as your daughter, you’d better not

accept any of his kindness.”

“Beth, listen to your dad…”

“Shut up,” Bethany cut him off. “You really thought he was

being nice to you? Can’t you see what kind of person he is? If

you hang out with him, he’ll sell you out and chop you up, and

you won’t even know what happened.””

“But I already promised him.”

“I’ll go handle it, you just stay inside and behave yourself, don’t

get into trouble and end up with more time.”

“Alright.”

Irvin had to say yes.

Bethany was right, Terrence looked like a really scheming guy.

If I really got chopped into pieces, it wasn’t worth it.

He was finally about to get out of prison and still wanted to live

a few more years.

After she talked with Irvin, Bethany came out of the visiting

room.

Kyson had been waiting for her outside.

“Kyson, I had to trouble you with something again.”

Bethany told Kyson about Terrence’s reason for coming to see

her dad, hoping Kyson could help her handle and sort out her

dad’s situation.

“Beth, it’s no big deal, I handled it for you.”

“When the time comes, tell me how much you need. Handling

my dad’s stuff, I can’t let you spend money.”

“Okay, I’ll tell you when things are sorted out.”

Bethany was going back to Vespera Villa, and Kyson dropped
