Chapter442
Today I brought Shyla to the playground, and ran into them.
What bad luck.
Terrence saw Bethany leave without any sign of attachment,
and his heart felt like there was a hole in it.
He stood up and steadied his cane. Evangeline gently brushed
the dust off him, muttering, “Terrence, I was so mad today my
stomach hurt. What is this even? We had a perfectly good
home, everything was fine before, and now, just over two
months, look at what it’s become.”
The McConnell family really was peaceful before.
Vespera Villa was even more so, everything was kept in perfect
order by Bethany.
Compared to now, Evangeline really couldn’t accept it.
“I told you so many times, be nicer to her, why did you still lay a
hand on her.”
Terrence pushed Evangeline away and didn’t let her help fix his
clothes.
Chapter442
“Can you blame me? Were those things she said something a
mom should say?”
“Blame her? She was telling the truth. You should go ask
Emery!”
Emery suddenly burst into tears.
His mom treated him like that and talked to him like that, he
already felt really wronged, and then his dad started blaming
him too, he just couldn’t take it.
“You said you were also wrong, you just knew how to yell at the
kid.”
Evangeline quickly protected Emery and comforted him,
saying, “Let’s ignore them. I’ll take you to play.“”
Evangeline took Emery and left. She couldn’t let the kid be
treated badly here.
The two adults, honestly, each was more out of line than the
other.
“Auntie, did mom not want me anymore?”
“Stupid kid, how could she not want you? She gave birth to you,
your relationship was set for life. No matter where you went,
Chapter442
you’d always be mother and son. Look at Shyla, she didn’t have
a mom or dad. She just felt sorry for Shyla and helped take care
of her, that’s all.”
“Aunt, you lied to me, she just said she didn’t have a son like me.”
Evangeline thought for a bit and kept comforting Emery, “That
Krista was your dad’s aunt, your great–aunt. How could you just
call her your mom? Your mom already made you sad by taking
Shyla. If she heard you calling Krista ‘mom, wouldn’t she be
even sadder? Listen to your aunt. Next time you see Krista, don’t
call her Krista. You have to call her great–aunt, okay? Once you
call her great–aunt, your mom will forgive you.”
“Really?”
“Of course it was true.”
The aunt and niece chatted as they looked for rides.
Terrence was leaning on his crutch, looking at Bethany and
Julio’s backs, and his eyes hurt.
The sun was wrong today.
It was too bright.
