During those ten days, Iris was trapped in the west wing of the Hale’s mansion. Besides being served three meals a day, no one checked on her, let alone took care of her.
Fortunately, no one came to bother her, and Megan never came again.
Ten days later in the morning, Iris woke up and opened her eyes, Heriberto was already sitting on the sofa by her bed.
The west side annex didn’t get any sunlight in the morning, even though Iris didn’t pull the curtains when she slept, the light was still dim.
Heriberto was leaning back in a single sofa about two or three meters away from the bed, legs crossed, elbows on the armrest of the sofa, chin resting on his hands, staring at Iris with his eyes wide open.
He was against the light, Iris couldn’t see his expression at all, only his eyes, deep as a hawk’s.
Iris met his gaze without a hint of fear or unease, not a Luce of panic.
She was calm, calm as if Heriberto was the husband who slept by her pillow every day.
She didn’t know when Heriberto came into her room and sat on her bed, but she was waiting for him to come back every day.
He came back, which is a good thing.
“I’m back.”

She sat up, spoke softly with a gentle voice that hadn’t fully woken up yet in the early morning.
Looking so calm and even with a hint of rosy glow on her cheeks, full of spirit, obviously had a good sleep, Iris made Heriberto feel a surge of indescribable emotions in his heart.
It seems like she really doesn’t care about him anymore, not at all.
Otherwise, she wouldn’t have been so quiet and living so well and freely on her own for these ten days of confinement.
Is she now looking forward to him divorcing her, setting her free so she can fly off happily with Nathaniel?
Oh!
He chuckled self–deprecatingly, “Last time’s paternity test didn’t count, gonna do it again today.”
His voice was calm, just very hoarse, like his vocal cords had been crushed by countless rocks and gravel.
“Sure!” Iris seemed to have already anticipated it, with a calm and surprising attitude, asking, “Nów?”
Heriberto’s hand clenched and then relaxed at his side, he forcefully controlled his emotions and said in a low voice, “Yes.”
“Okay,” Iris nodded, “I’ll go downstairs after I freshen up and change clothes.”
Heriberto didn’t stay a second longer, got up and left in big strides.
Iris didn’t waste any time, she got up, washed up, changed clothes, and went downstairs.

Downstairs, Heriberto was sitting in the car waiting for her. When she came down, the maid opened the back seat door. She hesitated for a moment, then got in.
Heriberto leaned back in the seat, with his eyes closed.
In the early morning, the bright sunlight shone through the clean car window, casting on his increasingly sharp and angular face.
The sunshine was warm and bright, but it couldn’t hide the exhaustion and chill on his face.
The car drove straight to a high–end private hospital, which had its own appraisal center.
On the way, the carriage was unusually quiet, no one was talking. Heriberto just leaned back in his seat with his eyes closed.
Listening to his breathing, Iris figured he must have fallen asleep.
He slept all the way until the car pulled into the hospital and stopped, then he opened his eyes and woke up.
The doctors and nurses had been waiting for them for a long time.
Iris went to get her blood drawn, they took a whole sev tubes, she didn’t say a word, Heriberto stood by her side watching.
After getting her blood drawn, she was taken to do all the other tests that pregnant women have to do during their first prenatal check–up.
