Sienna glanced at the time and did a quick check in her mind. She figured she’d still have enough time to make it to Sophie’s coming–of–age party.
“Alright. I’ll head over now,” she replied.
She hung up and turned to Pansy. “Mom, there’s an emergency at the institute. I need to go handle it. You guys go to the Brown family’s place first. I’ll head straight there from the institute once I’m done.”
Pansy was right next to Sienna and heard the whole phone call. She looked a little anxious. “Is it really that tricky?”
“It’s nothing I can’t handle,” Sienna grinned. “Seriously, with me around, what could possibly go wrong?”
Pansy was a bit bummed they wouldn’t be leaving together, but she understood Sienna’s work at the institute was the real deal.
When it came to matters of the country, everything else had to take a backseat.
She didn’t want to slow Sienna down. “Remember to bring that dress Mason gave you–he’s such a thoughtful kid. And take your styling team with you. Have Eden go along, too…”
“No need, Mom,” Sienna replied, giving her head a firm shake. “It’s better if most folks keep their distance from that place. I’ll just bring the dress with me–that’s all I need.”
Seeing her daughter wasn’t going to budge, Pansy didn’t insist any further. “Alright, then go on. We’ll catch up at the Brown family’s place.”
Sienna was glad she hadn’t opened the gift box last night. Now she could just grab it and head out without any hassle.
She tossed the box into the back seat and drove straight to the institute.
Once Sienna was out of sight, Amanda curled her lip in a show of open disdain.
‘What a fake,‘ Amanda sneered in her head.
‘Here she goes again.‘ She rolled her eyes.
‘Seriously, can’t she be real for once?‘ Amanda thought, totally unimpressed.
She’d just exposed Sienna for faking her “director of the new project” role at the institute, and now Sienna was up to her old tricks again.
Sienna can’t stop pretending, always putting on a show.
‘I just don’t get why Mom keeps playing along with her, Amanda thought, annoyed,
‘She’s just a dropout from some backwater town. Pathetic, Amanda scoffed to herself.
Chapter 185
‘Why does Mom keep buying her lies every single time?‘ Amanda rolled her eyes, totally fed up.
‘An emergency at the institute? As if Sienna’s needed for that, Amanda scoffed to herself.
‘Patrick could sort things out with his eyes closed. Why would they ever go running to Sienna for help? Don’t make me laugh, she thought, rolling her eyes.
She curled her lip, her face full of scorn.
“Oh. weed–wait, sweetheart. With that face, if I even tried putting makeup on you, it’d be a disaster, Xavier said, shaking his pink hair as he sauntered over.
He walked over, clicking his tongue in exaggerated disgust. “Tsk tsk, sweetheart, don’t make me feel like I’m. working for peanuts and it’s absolute torture. Fix that face and let’s keep going, alright?”
Not being able to style that stunning sister of hers–now that’s a pain he’ll never get over.
He refused to let this eyesore of a weed spoil his mood any longer.
“Xavier…” Amanda’s eyes brimmed with tears. “Just moments ago, you said I was a natural beauty!”
“Before I saw Miss Cooper, sure, I could’ve called you a natural beauty–since they’re pretty much extinct these days,” Xavier said, not bothering to sugarcoat his words. “But now with Miss Cooper around, can you honestly say your face stands a chance?”
Sienna’s stunning looks–she’d got that striking, classic beauty vibe that just demolished anyone who stood next to her. No other beauty could hope to compete; they’d be obliterated in seconds.
Her face was truly unbeatable!
Amanda’s eyes burned redder than ever, fists clenched from the sheer humiliation. She barely held back tears.
Meanwhile, as soon as Sienna got to the institute, she went to work on the database, handling emergency repairs and data tracking.
This kind of job was always a real headache–crazy complicated, insanely tedious, and demanded every bit of her attention.
It took her until nearly four in the afternoon before all the data was finally fixed up.
Sienna glanced at the time, just managed to say hi to Patrick, and then headed straight for the Brown family’s place.
While waiting at a red light, Sienna picked up her phone and quickly scanned through it.
Her phone was blowing up with messages–everyone wanted to know if she was done with work and whether she could make it to the Brown family’s dinner party.
Sophie even sent her a sad waiting sticker.
Even through the screen, Sienna could just imagine Sophie with her lips all pouty and her face screaming ‘not

happy‘ as she sent the message.
Sienna smiled and quickly shot Sophie a voice message: “On my way, almost there!”
Not even a minute later, her screen lit up with a video call.
It was Mason.
Sienna raised an eyebrow–Huh?‘
She’d just messaged Sophie, so why was Mason the one calling now?
‘Guess Sophie lost the battle for the phone, Sienna thought with a little smirk.
She picked up the call, stepped on the pedal, and kept driving.
Mason was rocking a dark crimson suit today, his naturally regal face looking even more cool and mysterious -almost wickedly magnetic.
The glittering light from the crystal chandeliers spilled over him, making his presence even harder to ignore.
From afar, his suit looked jet black, but up close, hints of deep red flickered through the fabric.
His eyes sparkled with a lazy mischief, all warmth and charm directed right at her.
“Are you driving?” Mason’s cold, deep voice came through the phone, smooth and magnetic. “Drive safe. See you in a bit. Let me know when you get here–I’ll come pick you up.”
Sienna replied with a quiet “mm.”
She could hear Sophie whining in the background, desperately trying to talk to her.
But before Sophie could get a word in, the video call was cut off.
Sienna smirked to herself.
‘No texting while you drive, no calls when you’re behind the wheel–yeah, yeah, rules are rules. Guess even I’m not above the law, she thought.
She kept driving, zipping down the road.
*****
Outside the Brown family’s estate, it was a flex zone–luxury cars everywhere, VIPS streaming in like it was the hottest event in town.
The Fairbank family hovered by those massive, imposing gates, gawking at a scene you’d only see splashed across Forbes or some finance magazine. Their hearts just wouldn’t quit pounding, and they were so nervous they had no clue whether to stand tall or run for cover–definitely feeling totally out of place.
They were so awe–struck, they couldn’t pry their eyes away.
They always fancied themselves part of high society.
But in front of the real power players, they were just insignificant ants.
Just the sheer extravagance here….
If Jessica Fairbank hadn’t gotten close to Mason’s fiancée–the Cooper family’s heiress and Orlathis City’s little princess–they wouldn’t even dream of being here.
Until today, even in their wildest dreams, they couldn’t imagine ever setting foot in a place like this!
Thinking about all this, Melvin looked at Jessica like she was a miracle. “Jessica, you really are Dad’s ticket to the big leagues!”
Hazel grabbed Jessica’s hand in a rush. “Sweetheart, you’re the lucky charm of our whole family! Look around -these are the real elite, the ones at the top. From now on, we’re finally in with them!”
Jessica’s eyes were glued to the opulent golden estate looming before her.
Her breath came in short, shaky bursts, and her hands trembled uncontrollably.
‘The legendary Brown family…‘ Jessica thought.
‘This is the Brown family–The Brown family!‘ she gasped inwardly, her heart pounding like crazy.
‘If they so much as lift a finger, the whole city of Orlathis trembles–and it’s not just the city, all of Aurathen would quake for them!‘ Jessica thought, mind spinning out of control.
And now, she had actually set foot in this place that stood for the very peak of power and privilege.
Jessica was dying to whip out her phone, snap a pic of this jaw–dropping mansion, and post it on Twitter with her location tagged.
Her social status was about to skyrocket!
“Jessica, look at all those cars–nothing here goes for less than over ten million bucks,” Hazel gushed, her eyes sparkling as she ogled every luxury ride around. “Keep those eyes wide open! Anyone who’s made the cut for Sophie’s coming–of–age party is from a top–tier family, the kind we’ve never even had the right to look up to
before.”
