Chapter 29
Azriel
“Ha ha ha! Did you see her face?!” Cedar, my best friend, laughs while in his raven form.
We’re sitting on the rooftop of the school and looking down at Eden. My little omega, who I just sent to the back of the science building so that she could figure out that her sweet friend is, in fact, not her friend at all.
“You’re doing this to break her, aren’t you? To make her wolf awaken so that your sister can truly enjoy her powers?” Cedar asks while I narrow my eyes to glare down at the three other girls now that Eden is hurrying inside the building.
Paris, the leader of the trio, flicks Elvira’s nose. “Don’t panic just because she heard us. You don’t care about her, remember? She is just a worthless weakling.”
Elvira looks uncomfortable, rubbing her arms. “I just didn’t expect her to actually hear all that.”
“Eh, you’re too sensitive!” Hilda claps her back. “Just embrace the truth: you’re better than her now that you can shape–shift!”
Elvira opens her mouth, and I tilt my head.
Come on, Elvira. Tell them that they are wrong. Defend Eden and prove to me that you’re not werewolf scum.
“You’re right,” a smile spreads over Elvira’s lips. “Eden is a loser anyway.”
Is that what she is really thinking?
Cedar is cackling about something beside me, but I pay him no attention and read Elvira’s mind instead. A little party trick that I have. It’s usually Eden’s mind that I read, though. This shall be interesting…
‘Eden thinks she is so pretty!‘
‘Eden only complains about her acne to get compliments from me about everything that’s pretty about her. Like her different–colored eyes.
‘I always felt inferior to her. I only acted kind because I was jealous of how Alpha Logan looked at her. Azriel too.‘
‘Everyone loves Eden. My own family loves her more than they love me. I hate that!‘
‘Everything would be better if Eden was gone!‘
I retreat from Elvira’s mind, disgusted by what I found. The nightmare powers in my veins are taking over me, making my chest heave. If I’m not careful, I could easily destroy Elvira. Gut her. Kill Her. Get rid of her.
But Eden wouldn’t like that.
…then again, what Eden doesn’t know doesn’t harm her.
I move my head to the side, and Elvira slips on the grass. There’s a sickening crack that makes me smile, though when Cedar winces and notices the harm, I mask it.
“My leg!” Elvira cries. “I…I think I broke my leg!”
“Oh, she slipped?” Cedar narrows his eyes, cocking his head in that bird–like fashion.
“Mortals are clumsy,” I comment and place one leg
ver the other while lighting a human cigarette. “Werewolves are no exception.”
Cedar says nothing, just watches in fascination as Paris tries to call for help while Hilda is barfing in a bush from seeing Elvira’s leg sticking out.

Chapter 29
I take a drag of my cigarette, savoring the burn in my lungs as I watch the chaos unfold below. Humans find these cancer sticks repulsive, but find their mortality fascinating. Also, I can’t really die from them, so–
“Fuck–fuck–fuuuuck!” Elvira’s adrenaline must have run out because she is crying now. “I think I’m going to die!”
I roll my eyes. A broken leg isn’t fatal, but I suppose the pain might make her feel like she’s dying. Humans and werewolves are to dramatic about physical discomfort.
I stand up, making Cedar lift his beak. “You’te leaving? Just when things are getting good?”
He means the blood and the gore, and normally, I would stay, but Eden is alone in the school somewhere. She might be a werewolf, but she is MY werewolf. MY plaything. I can’t stand the thought of someone else messing with her mind. That’s my fucking job.
“I have something to do,” I tell Cedar. I can’t let him know I’m checking on Eden. He probably wouldn’t tell my sister, but he would be shocked if he knew I, Azriel Rhysander, was on his way to comfort a mortal.
Cedar doesn’t argue, just spreads his wings. “I’ll see you tomorrow. Will tell your sister you said hello.”
“I’d rather you not,” I say dryly.
“Because she beat your ass?” he chuckles in that cawing, bird–like way. “Azriel, Azriel…” There’s a sigh coming out from his beak. “Why don’t you fight
back?”
