My father also knew that my marriage with Ferris could only last three years.
So from the day I signed that agreement, he had been searching for candidates for my next partner.
As for my thoughts, they considered them irrelevant.
The only requirement 1 proposed was that my future partner, whether poor or rich, handsome or ugly, could only have me as their sole mate.
I wanted something pure–a soul bond untainted by any other scents.
If this couldn’t be satisfied, I would rather never marry again.
I hadn’t expected that the legendarily cold and domineering Black Mountain Alpha–Adrian Thorne–would readily agree to this requirement.
He said: “I don’t need a second Luna.”
In that moment, my fingers holding the phone tightened slightly.
The certainty Ferris had never given me, another man was willing to promise.
Ferris returned the next afternoon.
He pushed open the bedroom door and saw the open suitcase spread on the floor, confusion flashing in his eyes.
“What’s this about?”
My hands paused in packing: “Oh, you’re back. My family misses me, so I’m going back to Stardust pack for a few days.”
I’d lived in this villa for three years, but I didn’t have many belongings. Still, I needed to pack everything up properly to throw away.
When I left, I wouldn’t leave behind anything that belonged to me.
Just as I finished speaking, my gaze caught the ambiguous red marks on Ferris’s neck. I froze for a moment, then looked away as if nothing had happened.
[
I had given up on Ferris completely.
So whoever he fooled around with was no longer my concern.
Hearing this, Ferris frowned: “Why the sudden return to Stardust pack? Still angry about last night? Trying to avoid me?”
“No, I just miss my parents and want to see them.”
At my response, Ferris’s brow relaxed: “It’s good to go back for a visit.”
I was my father’s illegitimate daughter, my only purpose being sent away for arranged marriages when my sister Lilith didn’t want to marry.
He had no suspicion whatsoever that I would leave him.
After all, in his view, I loved him so much that I’d given up dignity and life itself just to stay by his side.
1 lowered my eyes submissively and softly replied “okay.”
I would never come back.
Ferris wanted to say something more when his phone rang.
