Farewell to Love: The CEO's Desperate Chase novel Chapter 137

"They say Tyler personally led the team to Cerulion, negotiated the deal, and secured the partnership himself."

"But…"

Chloe's eyes shone with admiration as she looked at Tyler, but when her gaze shifted to Emilia, there was something curious flickering there.

"Sis, did you know? The most popular rumor back at my university is actually a completely different story."

She stepped a little closer to Emilia, dropping her voice conspiratorially. "There's this gossip going around that Mr. Kaufman—the current head of the Kaufman Consortium—is a notorious playboy. They say he'd promise partnerships and then back out, stringing along countless companies. But for some reason, the contract with The Erickson Group was actually genuine. Word is, he made a bet and lost."

"And supposedly, the person he lost to… was you, Emilia."

Tyler's brow creased. He stepped in front of Emilia, placing himself between her and Chloe.

"Chloe." His voice was cold, unmistakably a warning.

"Oh, come on, Tyler. I'm just sharing what everyone's saying." Chloe grinned, undeterred. "Seriously, when I was in Cerulion, so many people asked me about it. Now that I finally get to meet Emilia, what's the harm in asking her?"

She turned back to Emilia, her smile bright and mischievous. "Isn't that right, sis?"

"Everyone knows The Erickson Group developed the technology first and brought it to the Kaufman Consortium for negotiation. So how did that turn into some ridiculous rumor?" She rolled her eyes. "Sometimes I wonder if my classmates are all idiots."

"And that Mr. Kaufman—sure, he's handsome, but his reputation is terrifying. Back in Cerulion, there were real stories about him getting his hands dirty. Do you really think he'd sign a contract just because of a lost bet?"

She and Nolan had never gotten along, though she and Tyler were on good terms. As for Emilia—well, Chloe simply couldn't stand women who seemed to cling to Tyler. But since Tyler liked Emilia, that was his choice. At worst, Chloe just ignored her.

Besides, in front of her cousin, Chloe managed to be polite to Emilia—that was her pride as an Erickson daughter.

These rumors had been swirling around Cerulion and her university for ages. People loved a juicy story. She'd never cared, not until… well, until that incident.

Now, the idea of Emilia taking credit for the Erickson family's glory grated on her nerves.

"Come on, big brother, let her tell me!" Chloe whined, tugging at Tyler's sleeve before turning back to Emilia. "So, have you heard? Rumor has it Mr. Kaufman is coming to Alden City soon."
