Farewell to Love: The CEO's Desperate Chase novel Chapter 192

Chloe chatted a little longer before inviting everyone to begin the wine tasting.

"To keep things a bit mysterious—and since this is a tasting event—I won't be revealing the names of these wines tonight," she announced with a playful smile. "Once the time is right, I'll unveil each one. And for those who guess correctly, I've prepared a small gift."

With that, Chloe stepped down from the stage.

The guests gathered in small groups, savoring the wines Chloe had handpicked from Cerulion. After all, this was Miss Erickson's welcome-back reception, hosted by the Erickson family—nobody wanted to show disrespect, even if the little prizes weren't their real motivation.

While laughter and clinking glasses filled the room, Chloe made her way straight toward Emilia, who had quietly slipped off to the side.

Emilia stood by a waiter, selecting a fresh glass of wine. As she turned, swirling the glass to catch the scent, Chloe's voice drifted over.

"Emilia."

Emilia lifted her gaze, her expression calm as she considered Chloe in front of her, waiting for whatever would come next.

"I almost thought you wouldn't show," Chloe teased, her jeweled necklace glimmering under the low lights, making her look even more striking.

Emilia didn't respond, simply waiting.

Chloe nodded toward the far table. "Take a guess—which of those bottles over there do you think is the ‘Miss'?"

"There's nothing to guess," Emilia replied smoothly. "Every wine here is one of your handpicked treasures."

She paused, a faint smile flickering. "They're all good."

But Chloe's eyes held a warning.

Chloe took a sip from her glass, a ghost of a smile on her lips. "He died. Jumped from a building, they said. Left behind a beautiful wife, and his only daughter."

She turned, fixing Emilia with a knowing look. "Am I right, Emilia? Dennis's only daughter."

Emilia's eyes lowered. She stared at the amber liquid swirling in her glass, the light catching and refracting in slow, golden waves.

Her father's name—Dennis—had once been her shield, a title that followed her all through childhood.

But that was a long time ago.

In all the years since, Emilia had asked herself a thousand times—who was really responsible for her father's death?

But there were too many suspects, and nowhere to begin.
