“Well, everything’s basically ready. If it all checks out, we can summon Tyler in tomorrow or the day after.”
Her colleague nodded. Both of them filled their water bottles and headed back together.
“So, who’s our prime suspect now?” he asked casually.
Cynthia gave him a long, serious look.
He chuckled awkwardly and dropped the question.
Cynthia sat back down at her desk and gathered her things to leave. There were always piles of cases, never enough people, and she’d already been working overtime for days on end.
…
Time slipped by. The night faded quietly into dawn.
The city slowly came to life.
Emilia’s morning routine didn’t change. She got Bella ready for school, dropped her off, then drove over to Donovan Entertainment to prepare for the final round of the competition.
But today, something was different. She kept her phone with her at all times, checking it every few minutes.
If they could just make it through today, she and Tyler could finally get their marriage certificate.
Fortunately, the morning passed without any messages from Tyler.
Let it stay quiet, Emilia thought. If we can just get through to midnight, everything will finally be over.
Meanwhile, Tyler had just wrapped up a busy morning and was about to grab some lunch. As he sat down at the table, he noticed what his lunch was: beef stew with tomatoes and rice.
He raised an eyebrow at Secretary Jensen.
Jensen scratched his head, looking sheepish. “Mr. Erickson, I couldn’t find a decent place for dinner the other night, so I thought I’d bring you some of my mom’s homemade beef stew today. Hope you don’t mind.”
Tyler just nodded, not making a big deal of it. “Thanks.”
A few minutes later, someone knocked on the door.
Vivienne beamed, encouraging him to eat more.
But Tyler felt a growing irritation. He excused Vivienne, asking her to grab something from outside.
Just as she left, a third lunch arrived.
This one was from his grandfather’s house.
Tyler opened the box. Beef stew with tomatoes and rice—again. But this time, there was a handwritten note on top.
He opened the envelope and saw his grandfather’s bold, familiar script:
*Beef stew with tomatoes and rice. Tyler, missing Emily? Bring her home. Whatever happened, talk it over. You’re family.*
Tyler stared at the letter, a bittersweet ache in his chest.
But Grandpa… our divorce waiting period ends today.
