Everyone here was an adult—Tyler knew exactly what Vivienne was getting at.
But he just wasn’t in the mood.
He’d only just gotten divorced, and the last thing he wanted was to think about starting something new.
Right now, all he wanted was a break—a little time to himself, away from every complication.
As that thought crossed his mind, he felt a surge of relief that he’d agreed earlier to meet Owen at Prism Ivy House.
He glanced at Vivienne and said, “I promised Owen I’d meet him tonight. You’re not feeling well, so you should head home and get some rest.”
Vivienne looked at him, her lips pressed into a thin line. “Tyler… are you really not just making an excuse? Or is it that you still have feelings for Emilia?”
Her eyes glistened with tears as she tried a different tactic. “If you don’t want to be with me, go find her. I think she’d still want you back.”
Tyler let out a long sigh, reaching out to gently smooth Vivienne’s hair.
“Vivienne, I’m divorced now. That was my decision, and I followed through with it.”
He saw the hurt in Vivienne’s tearful face and, feeling helpless, took out his phone. He showed her the message Owen had sent him earlier.
“Just give me a little time to adjust, okay?” he said softly, trying to reassure her. “I need some space.”
Seeing Owen’s message, Vivienne looked ashamed.
“I’m sorry,” she whispered. “I thought…”
“It’s okay. Go get some rest,” Tyler said, squeezing her hand gently.
Vivienne nodded at last.
She opened the car door and stepped out, pausing in the doorway to look back at Tyler. “I’ll keep waiting for you,” she said, her voice trembling. “Until I can’t wait anymore.”
Tyler hesitated for a moment but didn’t answer, only saying, “Head inside.”
She nodded again and walked back into her building.
Only after she disappeared through the glass doors did Tyler back the car out of the lot and drive away.
Two seconds later, Vivienne reemerged. The vulnerable expression she’d worn just moments before was already gone.
