Farewell to Love: The CEO's Desperate Chase novel Chapter 281

Aside from the swelling ranks of Serena’s detractors, the number of spectators eager for drama skyrocketed as well—everyone was itching to watch this live broadcast unfold.

Backstage, Emilia had managed to arrive early despite getting held up. Beatty, not wanting to share the same space with her, had retreated to the private dressing rooms.

That left only the event staff milling about. The contestants, judges, special guests, and the host were all elsewhere.

Some of the staff, ever pragmatic, only cared about status and future prospects. So, wherever Emilia sat, the area around her remained conspicuously empty—no one wanted to be caught near her.

Even when Cindy tried to ask someone a question, they responded with apathetic shrugs or barely concealed annoyance.

Emilia had a pretty good idea whose influence was at work here. Vivienne, evidently, hadn’t forgotten their earlier spat and was making her feelings known.

When George and his family arrived, this was the scene that greeted them.

George Glenn, always one to wear his heart on his sleeve, stormed over in a huff.

“Go get ’em, Serena! I’m rooting for you!” he declared at the top of his lungs.

Ella, trailing a few steps behind, immediately reached out and gave her brother’s head a firm twist. “Don’t scare her like that!” she scolded, exasperated by her overzealous sibling.

Theodore followed quietly behind the two of them. When Emilia’s gaze met his, he offered a gentle nod and a warm smile.

“We actually debated whether to come backstage to see you,” Ella said softly. “Didn’t want to fuel any rumors, but then again, George’s obsession with dragging us to your shows is no secret, so what’s a little more gossip?”

George nodded enthusiastically.

Theodore Glenn, as always, was reserved, but there was a subtle amusement in his eyes.

Emilia looked at this family, their easy affection for each other—and couldn’t help but feel a pang of envy. Even Cindy, standing off to the side with stars in her eyes, couldn’t help but compare the Glenns to the backstabbing mess that was the Donovans.

Emilia honestly didn’t care about a bit of backstage gossip, nor did she mind the boycott. If anything, moments like this—when someone stood by her side—meant all the more.

Even if… everyone knew exactly why the Glenns were here.
