Farewell to Love: The CEO's Desperate Chase novel Chapter 315

Outside the window, across the field, a few figures suddenly appeared in the distance.

They were too far away for him to make out who they were or what they were doing.

Yet, somehow, those three tiny shapes held an inexplicable pull, drawing his gaze and refusing to let go.

...

On the other side of the field.

Emilia and Bella walked together across the grass, Theodore at their side.

Theodore wandered off for a moment, rummaging through the shadows before producing a small canvas bag from seemingly nowhere.

Emilia held Bella’s hand, watching him with open curiosity.

“Good thing I hid these here. They weren’t thrown out.” Theodore grinned as he pulled out a few tin canisters.

“What are those?” Emilia asked, leaning closer.

He handed her one. “Fireworks. Not the kind that rocket into the sky and make a huge racket—these are quieter, but they’ll still make a little noise.”

He glanced at Bella, then offered her another canister. “Bella, want to see this?”

Emilia inspected the firework—one of those you set on the ground, and it spits up showers of sparks. She was about to say something, but Bella beat her to it, nodding eagerly.

“I’d like that,” Bella said. “The director set these off for us on New Year’s Eve once. I’m okay to watch.”

Emilia turned to Joyce for reassurance, and, getting an approving nod, she finally agreed.

Theodore was already out in the field, arranging the fireworks.

Emilia scooped Bella into her arms and gently covered the little girl’s ears.

There was a soft hiss.

He paused, then added in a low voice, “And maybe you’ll think of me.”

The fireworks continued to burn, sparks leaping into the air, wild and beautiful.

Emilia slowly turned her head, her gaze drifting from the glowing bursts to Theodore’s face.

He hadn’t looked at the fireworks once. His eyes had never left her.

In the flickering light, his handsome features seemed to shift between shadow and flame, but his eyes—those deep, dark eyes—held only her reflection.

There was sorrow in them, and a hint of resignation.

Suddenly, Emilia smiled.

Wasn’t she supposed to be starting a new chapter?

Maybe it was time she let herself change, too.
