She choked back a sob and went on, “I told Tyler I didn’t have long left. But I really, really liked him. I asked if he could spare six months for me—not even as a couple, just to keep me company, to do the things I wanted to do.”
“At first, he refused. He kept telling me how deeply he cared for Emilia, that he couldn’t betray his marriage vows.”
“In the end, it was only because I was truly dying… and, well, I’d helped him out once before. That’s how things ended up the way they are now.”
“He divorced Emilia because he didn’t want her to feel like he was two-timing her.”
“The truth is, he never really had feelings for me.”
“When I’m gone, maybe they’ll get back together. I don’t really know. This livestream—it was my idea. Tyler doesn’t even know I’m doing it.”
“I never meant to explain all this to the public. I only have five months left, after all. But when I saw The Erickson Group’s stock price tumble because of these rumors, I felt so guilty… cough, cough…”
Vivienne coughed on camera. When she dabbed at her lips with a tissue, a smear of blood was visible for the briefest second before she hurriedly hid it out of sight, not wanting anyone watching to notice.
She forced a wry smile. “No business partners are leaving, there’s no billion-dollar divorce case. Honestly, Tyler and I never even slept together. If the stock price keeps swinging over tabloid gossip like this, it’s just…”
She was still speaking when—
“Bang! Bang! Bang!”
Someone pounded on the door outside. Vivienne glanced over in surprise.
A moment later, the livestream abruptly cut off.
Secretary Jensen stood in the doorway, breathing hard, glaring at Vivienne. “Miss Vivienne, before you do anything like this, you need to discuss it with us first!” He looked like he was about to explode.
Vivienne looked genuinely remorseful. “I’m sorry, I just wanted to help.”
That was why Emilia had told Raymond not to use her as an excuse.
The Erickson Group had real technical expertise; they’d only managed to negotiate those deals because they’d broken through industry barriers. So, even if Tyler was crowned the number one scumbag in the tabloids, it was still just gossip. Sure, it affected the stock price, but not as much as people thought. With some careful management, things would turn around.
But after Vivienne’s livestream, everything changed.
She’d just aired all their dirty laundry for the world to see—utterly humiliating.
Had Tyler really sunk this low since splitting with Emilia?
That was the unspoken thought on everyone’s mind in their circle.
And what most people hadn’t realized yet: Vivienne’s desperate attempt to help had left behind a mess of unresolved problems, the consequences of which were only just beginning.
