But in the end, she still couldn’t bring herself to say anything.
At last, she burst out angrily, “Fine! I’ll cooperate with you—happy now?”
Fuming, she stormed out of the room.
Secretary Jensen hurried after her.
Tyler watched her retreating figure in silence. Just as Vivienne was about to step out of the executive office, he spoke up. “Vivienne, from now on, you don’t need to get involved in Erickson Group’s business.”
That only made Vivienne angrier.
“Tyler, is this your way of saying you don’t want me around?” she shot back over her shoulder.
Tyler didn’t answer.
Secretary Jensen glanced anxiously between the two and quickly tried to smooth things over. “Miss Vivienne, that’s not what Mr. Erickson means. The company’s affairs are complicated, and Mr. Erickson is just concerned about your health.”
Vivienne stood there for a moment, silent, her hand wrapped tightly around the door handle.
“Tyler, I honestly just want to help you.”
She turned around, eyes red, her voice trembling. “If she could do it, so can I.”
“Maybe I made a mistake this time.”
“But I still want you to know—I’m willing to do anything.”
Tyler didn’t look at her. He lowered his gaze and said quietly, “Let’s have dinner together tonight.”
A flicker of triumph flashed across Vivienne’s eyes.
That was his concession.
Even now, he still didn’t know how to deal with her.
Suppressing her satisfaction, Vivienne composed herself and followed Secretary Jensen out to confirm the details.
Now, the vast executive office was empty except for Tyler.
He glanced at the small table off to the side.
In the past, whenever there was something that needed to be discussed and handled together, Emilia would always sit there, arms full of paperwork, ready to work by his side.
But now, it sat empty.
Bzzzz… bzzzz…
His phone kept buzzing.
Tyler checked the caller ID and answered.
Emilia smiled slightly.
“We need proof. Solid evidence,” her voice was soft but firm. “Christian, I need you to keep a close eye on his accounts and any related transactions.”
Christian agreed immediately.
They left it at that.
Both of them knew—even if they caught him, the consequences might only be a hefty fine, not jail time. But still, it would be enough to make Wyatt and Vivienne miserable.
Emilia had never meant to go after someone already on the brink of ruin, but ever since she and Vivienne accepted that wager, there was no turning back from their rivalry.
Besides, Vivienne had brought this on herself.
After hanging up, Emilia stared once more at the fluctuating stock chart.
Her father’s words echoed in her mind.
“Emily, until you’re the one making the rules, your best move is to follow them—and use them.”
Emilia lowered her eyes, lost in thought.
She found herself missing her father again.
