Farewell to Love: The CEO's Desperate Chase novel Chapter 405

Theodore gently wiped away her tears once more.

He hesitated for a moment, then reached out and softly pulled her closer, letting her rest her forehead against his chest.

When she didn’t resist, he let out a quiet sigh of relief.

He stroked her back in soothing circles. “This is my fault,” he said gently.

“I brought you here tonight because I wanted you to know how much I care about you. I needed to show you that I’m serious—not just saying the words. And you…”

“You can trust me. Completely.”

Emilia lifted her head, searching his face.

His eyes were rimmed with red, making him look even more sincere.

All these years, she’d only heard stories about Theodore—the mysterious eldest son of the Glenn family. He’d returned from the sea to take over the Glenn Group, running the company with his siblings and building it into something formidable. Since his return, there’d never been another woman at his side.

Someone once confided in her that Theodore had been betrayed at sea—an act that nearly cost him his life.

She’d believed it, assuming his heart carried the ghost of some lost love.

But she’d been wrong.

The person in his heart… was her.

Emilia didn’t know how to carry the weight of his feelings.

Since her father’s death, she’d forgotten how it felt to be loved for no reason at all. Everything in her life had to be fought for, scraped together through sheer will, just to survive.

What happened with Tyler and Vivienne had left her heart battered and bruised.

Losing her child in that hospital almost destroyed her. If Joyce McCarthy hadn’t found a donor for her in time, she might not have made it.

Since then, she’d stopped hoping.

Stopped daring to want more.

But now, Theodore—

“Theodore,” she whispered.

“Silly girl,” he teased gently. “Didn’t you want to play with the cat earlier? Should we go find her now? I think she likes you. She’s never that affectionate with me.”

Emilia nodded, smoothing her hair and wiping the last of her tears. Side by side, they stepped out of the room.

She watched as Theodore switched off the light and shut the door behind them. Emilia lowered her gaze, lost in thought.

“Mrow!”

Without warning, a chubby ragdoll cat leapt up onto the hallway rug, circling Emilia’s legs and butting her head against Emilia’s ankle, purring with her tail held high.

“Coco.” Emilia crouched down and stroked the cat’s big, fluffy head.

Theodore knelt beside her, somehow producing a handful of treats for Emilia to offer the persistent feline.

As she fed Coco, Emilia remembered Theodore telling her that he’d almost named the cat “Miss Piggy” instead, which made her want to laugh all over again.

After a while, Emilia changed back into her earlier outfit, and Theodore offered to drive her home.

But just as they pulled up to the gates of Glenn Manor, their path was suddenly blocked.
