Farewell to Love: The CEO's Desperate Chase novel Chapter 44

Emilia's statement went public in the afternoon.

She posted it from that old account she hadn't used in ages.

The announcement itself was brief and to the point.

Emilia: The rumors online about a supposed love triangle between myself, Tyler, and Vivienne have been spreading out of control. Tyler and I are still legally married. I am making this statement in hopes that this farce will come to an end. As for everything else, the truth will be clear in time.

No sooner had she posted it than the hate comments started pouring in.

"What do you mean ‘come to an end'? And what's this about ‘the truth will be clear'? Why don't you just ask for a divorce yourself?"

"Yeah, exactly! Vivienne is practically on her deathbed—can't you show some decency and let him go?"

"Disgusting. What's the point of posting this? To announce you're the real wife? Are you blaming Vivienne now? Maybe if you were more attractive, you could have kept your husband."

"Emphasizing that you're still married? Like we can't see right through you."

"Can't stand people who play the victim like this. At least Vivienne was upfront about her feelings for Tyler."

"Right, and it's not like Vivienne and Tyler did anything. She just picked him up from work, that's all. Even the reporters' photos show she was only there for a few minutes—unless Tyler's some kind of…"

"Hey, watch it. Mr. Erickson is not that quick!"

On and on the comments went, each nastier than the last. In the hospital room, Christian watched Emilia silently, his face knotted with concern.

He finally spoke. "Doesn't this just give them another target?"

Emilia set her phone aside, her voice calm. "If they weren't leaving comments here, they'd just find another video to vent on. It doesn't make a difference."

Christian frowned. "I don't get it. This statement is so mild—there's not even a letter from your lawyer. Why bother posting at all?"

Emilia looked up and met his eyes. "This is exactly the effect I want."

"It's just a statement," Christian pressed.

"Exactly. It doesn't do anything else. It just leaves a record."

Christian still didn't quite understand, but he trusted Emilia. If she was confident, that was enough. This wouldn't affect the company anyway—after all, the contracts were with "Emy" and "Serena." What did this have to do with Emilia?

At the Erickson Building, the door to the CEO's office swung open after a knock.

Tyler looked up and saw Jensen step inside.

"What is it?" Tyler asked.

Jensen walked over and handed him a tablet. "Mr. Erickson, your wife just posted a statement from her personal account."

The moment he heard it was her account, Tyler's expression darkened.

After their wedding, he and Emilia had agreed—any post from her account had to be approved by him first. She wasn't just Emilia anymore; she was Mrs. Erickson. But now…

He glanced at his phone. She still hadn't messaged him.

So she'd gone ahead on her own.

Tyler took the tablet and read the statement.

Then he scrolled down and saw the flood of vicious comments beneath it.
