“Alright,” Emilia agreed, hanging up the phone. She quickly washed up, grabbed the contract, and hurried out the door.
Sitting in the back of a cab, she called Theodore, asking him to take Bella to preschool.
“Is something wrong?” Theodore asked as he picked up Bella’s backpack.
“Someone from the Erickson Group needs to see me,” Emilia replied.
“I’ll come get you later,” he said.
Emilia stared out at the road ahead, nodded, and murmured, “Okay.”
…
Meanwhile, at the Erickson Group headquarters, the entire family had gathered: the elder Mr. and Mrs. Erickson, Tyler, and Vivienne.
The atmosphere in the room was tense, each person lost in their own thoughts.
The older couple looked weary, the kind of exhaustion that only comes from sleepless nights. Every now and then, Parker shot Tyler an exasperated glare.
Tyler, for his part, was the picture of calm—so calm, in fact, he seemed entirely untouched by the tension in the room.
Vivienne sat with her head bowed, fidgeting with a second phone in her hand. She’d claimed her old one had a broken screen, but in truth, she was just afraid Tyler would get his hands on it again.
Suddenly, her phone buzzed.
Vivienne glanced at the screen.
[Vivi’s Whispers transfer paperwork is complete.]
A wave of relief washed over her.
Parker met his wife’s eyes, and both let out a long, weary sigh.
“We’ve called you here today for a reason,” Parker began, only after Jensen had quietly closed the office door behind Emilia.
Emilia stayed silent, giving Parker her full attention.
“Frankly, the two of us haven’t been feeling well lately. Our energy isn’t what it used to be. We want to shorten the length of the contract—three months is simply too long. We’d like to cut it down to two. What do you both think?” Parker looked to Emilia, then to Vivienne.
One month had already passed; if the contract was shortened to two months, there’d only be a month left.
Vivienne felt as if fate itself were handing her the advantage. Vivi’s Whispers was officially hers now, and she could launch it any day. Emilia’s only card was the Glenn Group’s new product launch. But that project had always been scheduled for three months—if the timeline was cut, Emilia would have to skip two entire product lines. There was no way she could compete with Vivi’s Whispers now.
Without hesitation, Vivienne nodded. “That works for me.”
