Chapter 290 Have You Met Her Mother?
"Alright, I'll pay attention," James nodded in agreement.
"Thank you, Dean Broser."
As Norah walked out of his office, she had just stepped out of the elevator when she suddenly heard a crisp and pleasant voice by her ear, "Sister-in-law?"
Sister-in-law?
This term was unfamiliar to Norah.
So she didn't react immediately.
It wasn't until the voice not only followed her but also got closer and closer to her that Norah realized that the person might be calling her.
But no one would call her like that.
Norah turned around in confusion.
When she saw Melisa, everything became clear to her.
Seeing Norah stop, Melisa immediately ran up to her, panting as she said, "Norah, oh, you finally heard me. I've been calling you for a while."
"Sorry, there were too many people in the elevator just now. I didn't expect you were calling me."
"And you..." Norah tucked a strand of hair behind her ear with her delicate fingers and continued speaking gently, "Did you just call me sister-in-law? I really didn't expect that."
Melisa explained with a smile, "Yes, you're my brother's girlfriend, so I should call you sister-in-law, right?"
"If it were someone else, I wouldn't dare to say, but my brother is absolutely reliable. Since he has chosen you and introduced you to everyone in our family, he definitely intends to marry you."
"It's just a matter of time, so I thought it would be right to call you sister-in-law."
Melisa's explanation was animated, and Matthew was not by her side, so Norah didn't know if she could reveal the truth.
After thinking about it, she decided to discuss it with him first.
So, she could only reluctantly nod and smile.
"By the way, Norah, my mom really wants to meet you recently. She has been mentioning it to my brother several times, but he always says you're too busy and don't have time. What a coincidence today! Since we bumped into each other, why don't you accompany me to meet my mom?"
"My mom would be very happy to see you. It might even help her recover faster."
Melisa had already held Norah's arm.
Norah could only nod. "Okay, but it's not appropriate for me to go empty-handed. Wait a moment, I'll go..."
Before she could finish her sentence, Melisa interrupted her with a smile, "Norah, there's no need. Our family doesn't care about formalities. As long as you go, my mom will be happy. You don't need to bring any gifts."
"Besides, to her, you are the best gift. There's no better gift in the world than you. You don't know that my mom is going crazy wanting a daughter-in-law."
"So, you came at just the right time."
In the end, Norah was pulled into the elevator by her.
Not far behind them.
Anthony awkwardly rubbed his nose and looked at Shawn nervously, asking, "Mr. Lawson, well..."
That girl just kept calling Norah 'sister-in-law', and Anthony heard it loud and clear.
Of course, Mr. Lawson definitely heard it even clearer.
Look at his expression. He was standing there motionless, with cold eyes and furrowed brows, and he didn't seem as happy and excited as when he arrived.
Clearly, he was angry.
And he was jealous.
"Mr. Lawson, should we still go find Miss Chase?" Anthony asked again.
"Why not?"
As she watched their warm reception, Norah felt so bitter in her heart.
Moreover, she had a deep sense of guilt.
They truly considered her as part of their family, but she had deceived them.
The more she thought about it, the more upset Norah felt.
Now, she just hoped that Mat would see her message soon and come over, so they could explain the situation.
"Mrs. Kaitlyn, Mat told me that the surgery was very successful and you're recovering nicely. How are you feeling now?" Norah changed the topic.
Hearing that, Kaitlyn nodded kindly. "Speaking of that, I really have to thank you in person. Mat has already told me that you helped with Professor Greer's matter."
"If it weren't for Professor Greer's involvement, my surgery wouldn't have been so successful."
"So, I sincerely thank you from the bottom of my heart. You're a good girl. Luckily, Melisa just went downstairs and ran into you, or I wouldn't have been able to see you today before being discharged tomorrow."
Norah replied gently, "Mrs. Kaitlyn, please don't say that. I'm very glad to be able to help you."
"Moreover, as soon as I saw you, I felt that you resembled my mother a lot. You give me the same feeling and aura as my mother."
"Your mother? If I have a chance in the future, I definitely want to meet her. She must be an intellectual, elegant, and beautiful woman, which is why she raised such a likable, gentle, and kind girl like you."
Norah lowered her head and her voice carried a hint of sadness. "My mother passed away a few years ago."
"I'm sorry, Norah. I brought up your sad past."
Norah shook her head and said with a strong smile, "Mrs. Kaitlyn, it's not your fault. Please don't blame yourself. But I do have a picture of my mother on my phone. Would you like to see it?"
"Sure, I'd love to see it." Kaitlyn nodded.
Norah found her mother's photo and walked over to hand her phone to Kaitlyn.
Upon seeing the photo, Kaitlyn immediately exclaimed, "Huh? I feel like I've seen this photo somewhere before."
