Fiona sat at the head of the long, polished dining table, exuding an air of indifference that made everyone in the room feel small. Mitch had arrived swiftly at the Stonnell family’s grand living room, and soon enough, nearly all the Stonnell family members were present.
Instead of reprimanding Fiona for her lack of decorum, Mitch, assisted to his seat, greeted her with a warm smile. "Why the sudden return? Did you find it hard to adjust elsewhere?"
Fiona didn’t bother to reply, her expression as cold as ice. She crossed her legs and sipped her coffee with a calmness that was both intriguing and unsettling.
"If you’re not comfortable, you can always come back home," Mitch offered, playing the role of the considerate elder, a performance that earned silent applause.
Yet, as with most affluent families, genuine affection was rare. Their primary concern was always self-interest.
When it came down to it, who would care for anything else?
"I was thinking the same," Fiona replied with a slight smirk as she set her coffee cup down and toyed with the saucer, her gaze sweeping over everyone gathered in the Stonnell living room.
Each face displayed varying degrees of shock at her words. Some even showed outright hostility, their disdain barely concealed.
These were her so-called relatives. Blood ties or not, they all prioritized their own interests.
She hadn’t even officially returned, and they already viewed her as an adversary, eager to see her gone.
"You all look delightful," Fiona scoffed.
Over the years, their dealings with the Woods family had been relatively transparent, given that the Stonnell and Woods families were the top two powerhouses in the States, deeply rooted and unshakeable. Even if discovered, who could challenge them?
But their recent alliance with the Larkin family was fresh, only a matter of days old, unknown even to most of the Stonnell family members. How did Fiona know?
Even Mitch paused for a moment, his hawk-like eyes scrutinizing Fiona, as if pondering something.
"Fiona, don’t get too full of yourself! The entire Stonnell family doesn’t revolve around you!"
A booming voice cut through the tension in the room. Fiona turned toward the source, a smile slowly spreading across her face. As expected, someone couldn’t hold back any longer.
