Jasmine took a big, satisfying bite of the crispy bacon sandwich, her face lighting up with a contented smile. "This tastes incredible!"
Just then, Shelly and Jane burst through the door, arms full of breakfast goodies, only to discover everyone had already eaten. They exchanged puzzled looks—after all, they'd gone through so much trouble to get everyone's favorite morning treats.
The two of them had been zipping around the city at the crack of dawn, trying to gather the perfect breakfast spread, but they were just a little too late.
"Did you guys already eat?" Shelly asked, a bit flustered, the weight of the breakfast bags leaving red marks on her hands.
"No, we just got here," Fiona chimed in, quickly stepping in to ease their embarrassment.
"Really? Oh, that's a relief," Shelly said, as she started laying out the breakfast on the table, chatting away like she couldn't help herself. "Jane and I were up all night figuring out what everyone likes. Mr. Woods was especially tricky, but we finally nailed it..."
Jane winced slightly, thinking Shelly could've kept some of that to herself.
The room was buzzing with a peaceful vibe until suddenly, a metallic scent hit the air. Fiona's nose crinkled as she looked around. Everyone was gathered around, picking their breakfast when she caught sight of Jasmine, whose mouth was suddenly gushing blood.
Jasmine's hands shook, and she couldn't get a word out.
In just seconds, she looked drenched in red, blood pouring out uncontrollably. Even Fiona froze for a moment, shocked by the scene.
"Jasmine!" Fiona yelled, throwing her sausage roll aside as she rushed to Jasmine's side. The blood just kept coming, relentless.
Time dragged on painfully slowly as everyone waited with anxious hearts.
Inside, Fiona extracted five pale, worm-like creatures from Jasmine's body. These parasites had been eating away at her, but Fiona had found nothing wrong when Jasmine was brought in the night before.
As Fiona snipped one of the worms with scissors, she was shocked to see it regenerate a new head, like an earthworm.
In that moment, Fiona realized what Josie had been trying to do.
But how had these parasites gone unnoticed, silently wreaking havoc on Jasmine's body all night? Fiona was certain she'd checked her thoroughly.
