Flora’s Guide to a Second Chance at Love and Life novel Chapter 1845

After he finished speaking, he immediately turned to Jackson and Fiona. “Are you two hurt? I’m on duty tonight—let me take you to the hospital so you can get checked out properly. What happened was all because my niece doesn’t know any better. Please, forgive her. She’s been spoiled by our family, but I promise, I’ll take her home and set her straight this time.”

Fiona looked up at him, a hint of sarcasm in her eyes. The chief sure knew how to downplay things.

A minute ago, that brat couldn’t stop calling her names like she owned the place, and now he wanted to brush it all off with a “she’s just young and naive”? Did he really think she was that easy to fool?

Meanwhile, the little troublemaker—Flora—still hadn’t caught on to how serious this was. She just stood there, glaring, confused about why her uncle was practically groveling to these two. She looked like she might charge at Fiona again, but one of the officers quickly stepped in and grabbed her arm.

“Flora, knock it off! Can’t you tell these two aren’t the type you want to mess with? Don’t make this harder for the chief,” the officer whispered urgently.

None of the staff had ever seen the chief rush over in the middle of the night like this. Clearly, Jackson and Fiona weren’t just any ordinary people.

They all breathed a silent sigh of relief—thank god they hadn’t said anything stupid earlier. If they’d gotten themselves in trouble now, there’d be no saving them.

Flora finally seemed to realize things had gotten real. She froze in place, not daring to move.

The chief tried again, sounding extra polite. “Would you two mind stepping inside for a minute? I’ve had some really nice tea prepared. Please, come in and have a cup.”

Jackson didn’t even bother with small talk. He took Fiona’s hand, his voice cool and to the point: “Can we leave now?”

The chief was caught off guard. Was that it? Was this whole mess just… over?

If so, he’d never been so relieved.

“Uncle, are you crazy? Prison? My mom would never forgive you! I’m the only daughter in our family—have you forgotten what that means? If you send me to jail, the whole family will turn upside down!” Flora screamed.

The word “prison” instantly wiped away all the arrogance from Flora’s face. She stared at her uncle in shock, like she couldn’t believe what she was hearing.

He’d always spoiled her, given her anything she wanted. Even if she asked for the stars, he’d try his best to make it happen—like that time he’d taken her to see the Northern Lights, just because she said she wanted to touch the sky.

But all of that seemed to vanish in an instant.

“I’m not going to prison! I’d rather die! If you send me there, you might as well just kill me—kill the niece you’ve always loved most!” Flora screamed, then dropped to the floor, sobbing.
