Jane marched right up and slapped her, hard. In all these years, no one had ever dared say she was disgusting—until now.
Even when those big-name heirs from the States showed up and threw insults at her, Jane never took it lying down. So why would she put up with this random girl who came out of nowhere?
“I think you’re just—” Jane started, but Fiona stepped in and cut her off. She shook her head at Jane, then looked steadily at the girl standing beside her.
“You say you didn’t rig the votes? And you want me to prove it if I think you did?” Fiona asked, calm as ever.
The girl was still in shock from Jane’s slap, and Fiona’s words only made her more confused. She nodded automatically.
“Alright. I’ll show you the proof,” Fiona said, her face unreadable.
She hooked her laptop up to the projector, casting everyone’s vote records onto the board. Most people’s votes were growing at a normal, steady rate. Jane’s numbers were a little higher, but nothing wild.
But then, after midnight last night, the votes for this girl’s design exploded. She shot straight into the top three, her votes climbing at a ridiculous speed.
By seven in the morning, she’d passed the first place contender by more than nine hundred votes. Only then did things finally slow down.
The whole room stared, stunned. Even the girl looked like she couldn’t believe her eyes.
But she really hadn’t done anything wrong!
