Fiona and Tyler pulled up to the Woods family estate, the car rolling to a stop at the grand gates. Maybe it was all the recent drama, or maybe this crowd really did have a knack for making a scene—because as soon as word got out, everyone rushed over to the mansion.
But unlike Fiona and Tyler, the rest of them never made it past the front gate. The Woods family security had them all lined up outside, no exceptions, while Fiona and Tyler strolled right in like they owned the place. The others could only stand there and watch, frustration plain on their faces.
“The Woods family invited Ms. Fiona personally,” one of the men at the gate muttered. “That’s got to mean they’re handling things seriously. After all, she’s close with Jackson. No way she’d turn her back on Woods Corporation, not with him involved.”
“Exactly,” someone else agreed. “She wouldn’t have come otherwise. She just got burned by Woods Corporation—no wonder she’s mad. Blame old Franklin for that. He messed everything up the first time he met her.”
“Still, you have to admit, the Stonnell family genes are something else. Ms. Fiona’s so young, and she’s already accomplished so much. Give her a few more years, and she’ll be unstoppable.”
At the gate, a group of old-timers kept singing Fiona’s praises, talking her up like she was some legendary heroine. Too bad Fiona didn’t hear any of it. If she had, she probably would’ve grabbed a chair and some snacks, ready to soak up every compliment.
Inside, Fiona and Tyler moved through the halls with easy confidence, following the butler straight to Grandpa Woods’ study. They’d been here enough times to know the way by heart. Fiona knocked three times, then pushed the door open.
Grandpa Woods was already waiting for them. He was settled comfortably on the sofa, hands wrapped around a clay teapot, his whole vibe warm and welcoming. As soon as Fiona walked in, he smiled. “Fiona, you’re here.”
“Grandpa Woods,” she greeted, her tone calm as she took a seat across from him. “You’re looking great lately—even healthier than last time.”
