Chapter 19
Emma looked at Victor’s dazed expression. Though she felt vindicated for Lily, he was after all her own brother. She sighed and handed over all the evidence she’d gathered to Victor.
“Think it over carefully. It might not be too late to make amends now.”
Emma persuaded him helplessly.
Victor shut himself in his room and went through everything. Only then did he realize how terribly wrong he’d been–how blindly trusting Sophie had caused Lily so much pain.
Regret washed over him. Emma was right: there might still be time to win Lily back.
The thought sparked action. Victor immediately ordered his assistant to track Lily’s whereabouts.
Meanwhile, Benjamin got wind that Victor was investigating Lily’s movements.
“Lily, my assistant just told me Victor’s looking for you. What do you want to do?”
Benjamin left the choice entirely to her.
Lily first felt puzzled, then disgusted at the news.
“Why suddenly track me now?
Isn’t he busy playing lovebirds with Sophie?”
“Word is Sophie and Victor had a falling out.”
Benjamin wrapped an arm around Lily.
She pouted, annoyed. “So he ditches Sophie and comes running to me? Am I some convenient backup plan?“:
Lily couldn’t fathom why she’d wasted seven years chasing such a man.
Benjamin knew she’d lost her memory, but Victor’s pursuit worried him.
What if she suddenly remembered everything and went back to Victor?
Lily noticed Benjamin’s concern and reassured him.
“Don’t worry. I’ve seen his true colors now. No matter what he does, I won’t go back to him.”
Her words eased Benjamin’s mind.
Victor shook his head.
Emma wanted to tell Victor about Lily’s whereabouts, but when she thought about the grievances Lily had suffered before, she felt it was actually good this way.
Let Victor feel the hardship of winning her back; if he really managed to get Lily back, then he would truly treat her well.
Thinking of this, Emma said to Victor: “Before, Lily was always chasing after you, and you didn’t appreciate it at all.
Now that Lily really doesn’t want you anymore, you know how hard it is to chase someone.”
Victor didn’t refute Emma, letting his sister lecture him.
Emma was right; this was what he deserved. He was wrong before.
Victor was in a slump for several days. During that time, Sophie came to see him a few times, but he drove her away each time.
Emma saw that Victor genuinely wanted to repent, so she reluctantly told him,
“Lily is back from her trip.”
Hearing this, Victor immediately wanted to go to New York to find Lily.
