Benedict
I watched my father go into a private room with Alpha Roman and Luna Samara. I already knew what it was about. I warned him and thankfully, my father listened to me and not my mother.
Then, I’d watched my father get the Superintendent of Schools to go into the room. She’d walked out of the room looking much less confident than when she walked in.
“Why did my father get called into a room with Alpha Roman and Luna Samara?” Alpha Jeremy asks, coming to stand beside me.
“I’m guessing they are having a discussion about the punishment your she-wolves were given for bullying Sloane,” I say. I turn and look at him. “Did your father keep the punishments you gave them?”
“After I explained the risks, yes,” he says.
“Then he should be fine.”
“Why now? Why not before when all of this started with her and Slade?” he asks.
“Sloane never said anything and apparently neither did Slade. Alpha Roman just found out about it yesterday.
Needless to say, he’s not happy.”
He whistles low. “Is he going to go after every Alpha here, because I’m pretty sure there isn’t a single pack that hasn’t had at least one wolf who bullied Slade or Sloane.”
“I don’t know how much he knows, but we should probably spread the word. Alpha Roman is on the hunt for anyone who is hurting his family. visit jo_bni-b-.- c(om for fast update Alphas better warn their wolves because as compassionate as he and Luna Samara are known to be in their pack, if anyone hurts their family, they will kill them,” I say.
Jeremy looks at me. “That seems drastic.”
I raise my eyebrows at him. “Everyone seems to remember that Sloane and Slade’s parents killed Luna Althea’s family and her mate. But no one seems to remember that Alpha Roman and Luna Samara killed Alpha Sawyer, Luna Althea, and Alpha Dylan for their betrayal. The packs would be wise to remember that Alpha Roman and Luna Samara don’t have any tolerance when it comes to others hurting their family,” I tell him.
“How do you know all of this? It was before our time,” he asks.
“I make it my business to know.”
When his father comes out of the room, looking a bit more pale than when he entered, Jeremy pushes off the wall we’re leaning against.
“ll catch you later, and thanks for the warning yesterday.
I’m not interested in my pack getting decimated because a couple of she-wolves couldn’t keep their mouths shut.”I begin to make my way around the room, saying hello and making small talk with dignitaries, politicians, and other important people in the werewolf world.
I feel my sister step up beside me. Because I know she’d rather stay on the sidelines, away from the constant pressure of having to put on a show in front of these powerful wolves, I know she has something to tell me.
“Have you heard the rumor, brother?” she murmurs, looking around and smiling while sipping her drink.
“Which one? There are multiple rumors floating around this evening.”
The one about Alpha Waylon getting ready to announce his heir.”
That startles me. Because he’s our neighbor, I’ve kept tabs on his pack. Whoever he chooses as an heir could become our greatest ally or our worst enemy.
“Who?”
“I don’t know. No one seems to.”
“Please, goddess, tell me it’s not that idiot Kaelin,” I murmur, nodding at a widowed she-wolf who is at least my mother’s age and is looking at me like she’s intending to eat me for dessert later. The idea of having a beautiful woman, no matter her age, on her knees in front of me with her mouth wrapped around my cock right outside the party with the potential of getting caught would haveexcited me in the past. I also know from experience that older women are very good with their mouths.
Tonight, however, an image of Sloane pops into my mind.
There’s something about her haunting sadness that draws me in and makes me want to protect her. The fact that she feels like she has to take on the world alone only makes my desire to protect her stronger. I took at the widow again, and rather than winking at her and encouraging . her, I look away.
“I don’t think it’s Kaelin. That’s not what I’ve heard, although you can expect that he’ll cause problems for whoever the heir is,” Bethany says.
I smile at my sister. “Have I mentioned how much I love yOu?”
“Not in forever,” she says, smirking at me before lifting on her toes to kiss my cheek.
“Keep your ears open. Let me know what you hear.”
“Anything for you, big bro.”
I watch her return to the sidelines of the party, making sure no male wolves approach her.
“Why is that?” Luna Samara asks. She looks like shegenuinely wants to know.
I smile, thinking of Sloane. “She’s powerful, as a pure Alpha wolf would be. But she never uses more strength than is necessary and when she has a choice, she always chooses compassion over anger. I can’t say I know many people in this world who do that.”
“You see quite a bit about our niece,” Alpha Roman says, that assessing look back in his eyes.
“As I said, I find her fascinating.”
“Benedict, darling, it’s time for dinner. Will you walk me into the dining room?” my mother asks, walking over. She could be going in with my father, but she’s chosen me for a reason.
“Of course, mother. Please, enjoy your dinner,” I say to Alpha Roman and Luna Samara before turning with my mother and walking to the front of the room.
“What did they want?” she whispers the moment we’re out of earshot.
“They wanted to thank me for the punishment I gave to our she-wolves. It’s a good thing dad listened to me and not you, mother. Things could have gone south very quickly tonight if he had,” I say, making sure she hears the warning in my tone. When I become Alpha, I will not tolerate her attitude. If I have to have my father take her away and get her out of the pack, I will. She’s becoming a festering wound and toxicity like that spreads quickly in apack.
“How very pompous of them,” she growls.
“What is your problem with the Hartwells, mother?” | ask.
“I have no problem with them, other than they flaunt their power.”
“Unlike you, you mean?” I ask sarcastically.
“I did not raise you to speak to me this way, Benedict,” she growls, putting a smile on her face for the crowd.
“No, you didn’t. But dad raised me to be an Alpha, and sometimes, Alphas have to toe a hard line.”
She grunts then plasters an even bigger smile on her face.
“Attention everyone. Dinner is served.”
