Forsaken by the Moon Goddess novel Chapter 13

Benedict

After Alpha Roman and Luna Samara basically let it be known that they would not tolerate any more bullying of their niece and nephew, it stopped. I was also pleased to see that Principal Rogers meant business. During our Assembly on Monday, she was clear that anyone caught or found guilty of bullying would be expelled, even if they are a senior.

What I realized on Tuesday is that Sloane somehow found out that she and l are in the running to become Valedictorian. And now, it’s fucking game on. If I thought it was fun competing when she didn’t know we were in competition, it’s SO much more fun now.

Not only is she taking an active interest in how well I’m doing compared to her, but it’s forcing her to talk to me.

That was how I realized she knew.

It was after Physics Class when she approached me.

“So, how’d you do on the test?” I was so shocked that she had come up to me and was initiating conversation, that I nearly dropped my bag.

“Good. How about you?”

“Good.” She didn’t walk away, so | pulled my bag over my shoulder.”I was just wondering how good you did,” she pushed.

“I got an A,” I say. Since I sit beside her or right behind her in most of our classes, I’ve been keeping track of her grades compared to mine. That’s how I knew she was one of the smartest in our class. “Not the A+ that you got though,” I say, letting her know that I know why she asking.

She spins around, walking backward and for the first time in my life, I get to see Sloane smile. For a split second, l can’t breathe, I can’t think. Well, maybe because all the blood in my body went straight to my dick. Sloane’s a beautiful woman already. She’s naturally gorgeous without trying and since she obviously doesn’t try, I know that for a fact. But that smile? That’s the kind of smile that would bring kings to their knees and make saints cry for mercy.

“What?” I ask, shaking my head. I saw her mouth move but I didn’t hear what she said.

“I said, you’re going down, pretty boy.”

Now it’s my turn to smile. I love nothing more than a challenge. Especially if it’s actually something that will challenge me.

“Bring it on, gorgeous. I’m not that easy to take down.”

“I guess we’ll see,” she grinned before spinning back around and going to her locker.”I guess we will,” I murmur.

“Alpha, what was that about?” Ellis asks, walking up.

“Sloane Hartwell just realized that she and are competing for Valedictorian,” I say, not looking away from her.

“She is?” he asks, as if it’s unfathomable that Steane could possibly be that smart.

I look at my Beta, and I know the look on my face is all Alpha arrogance. “Did you ask that because she’s a woman or because it’s Sloane?”

He looks at me, frowning. “Dude is it with her?”

“I guess I’m tired of people underestimating her, especially when it’s my Beta. Be a better man than the idiots who have nothing better to do than spread lies and rumors around this school,” I growl.

I’m sure he was startled by my outburst, but I meant what I said. If he’s going to be MY Beta, he needs to be better than mest. I won’t tolerate mediocrity among my ranked members.

The next couple of days continued that way. Since we’re nearing the end of the year, we have quite a few tests to finish so each day I made a point of teasing Sloane about her grade versus mine.

“Oh, only an A-. That’s too bad. At for me,” I said, flashing my grade and a huge smile.”Only an A again? Oh, I’m sorry. Maybe Physics isn’t your class,” Sloane says, showing me her grade on Thürsday.

I’m not sure I’ve EVER had this much fun in school.

Thursday afternoon when I return home, I want to make sure that my mother invited Sloane to my birthday party.

She’s still put out with me about the party, but tough shit.

I don’t tolerate anyone’s double standards, not even my mother’s.

“Mom, did you invite the Hartwells to my birthday party?”

“Yes, why? Can I uninvite them?” she asks with mock sweetness.

“You invited ALL of them, right?”

“Why would I invite all of them? I invited Alpha Roman and Luna Samara.”

“Why wouldn’t you invite Sloane and Slade?” I ask.

“Why would I invite THEM to your birthday party?”

“You mean besides the fact that Sloane is in my class and Slade is an Alpha heir? Why wouldn’t you?”

“Sweetheart, your birthday is a very important day. We want very important people to be there. Maybe you’ll find your mate. That would be wonderful. There’s no reason to create discord,” she says as if she’s being perfectly reasonable.”No, there isn’t, is there?” Igrowl before walking away.

Rather than going through my mother, I decide to take matters into my own hands. The next day on the way to school, I hand Bethany an invitation.

“Will you give that to Slade?”

“What is it?” she asks.

“An invitation to my birthday party.”

“Does mom know?”

“Mom excluded him and Sloane to avoid ‘discord’,” I say.

She looks at the invitation. “Are you giving one to Sloane?”

I pull the invitation 1 made for Sloane out of the console and wave it in front of her.

“You know mom is going to freak the fuck out when she realizes what you did, right?”

“It’s my fucking birthday. She doesn’t get to dictate who l do and don’t invite. Well, okay, she can dictate who is invited, but she can’t say Sloane and Slade AREN’T invited.

Not when I invited them myself. I’ll need you to back me up when they arrive though.”

“You know I’ve got your back, Bro.”

“I know. That’s why you’re my favorite sister,” I say, grinning at her.”I’m your ONLY sister,” she growls, rolling her eyes.
