Forsaken by the Moon Goddess novel Chapter 19

Benedict

I convinced Bethany to help me watch Alpha Waylon’s pack to see if I was right about Sloane going to his pack again this weekend. Not only did some stranger pick her up on Friday, a stranger that she smiled at and practically danced over to see, but I’m ninety-nine percent sure that I’m right that she’s going to be named heir of Waylon’s pack.

I’m not sure why or how, but honestly, it doesn’t matter to me. 1 know that Alpha Waylon is allied with Alpha Roman and without his own heir, and Alpha Roman’s heirs all having packs to claim, it makes sense to me that Waylon would choose Sloane.

I’m happy for her, even if I have no idea what that means if we’re truly mates. If we aren’t mates, it would be easier. I have no problem entering into an alliance with her, no matter what my mother says.

However, neither Bethany nor I saw Sloane, Slade, or Scarlet at Alpha Waylon’s pack on Friday afternoon or evening. On Saturday, my mother kept both of us busy getting ready for the big event and having our own family celebration in the morning.

My mother, of course, wanted to know if I smelled my mate in our pack. While I think she had her eye on a particular she-wolf for me, I was thankful that Marrok didn’t smell his mate on the morning of my birthday.Thankfully, my mother moved on from the discussion of a mate scent quickly over breakfast while going over the events planned for the day.

Before she could get too far into it, my father stopped her.

“Bea, it’s our son’s eighteenth birthday.”

“I am aware of that, Benedict. That’s why I’m going over everything that needs to be done today.”

“My point, Beatrice, is give the man a moment to actually enjoy his day before you begin choking him with responsibility.”

My father rarely ever pulls rank over my mother, but I was thankful that he did. My mother may have looked like she sucked on a lemon all through breakfast, but it was nice to just have a moment together as a family before the chaos of the day began.

Bethany got me cufflinks with the image of a wolf’s head engraved in them. My parents got me a new truck.

It wasn’t completely unexpected, but it was exciting, not that I got to enjoy it. The moment our breakfast plates were cleared, my mother started in again. I listened to the laundry list of things that she wanted to get done before guests started arriving at six o’clock tonight.

Behind her, Bethany put her hands over her throat and mimed being choked. I had to use every bit of my Alpha training to not burst into laughter. The day flew by and before I knew it, I was putting on my tuxedo and getting dressed for the party. I had jüst finished adding my sister’s cufflinks when there was a knock at my door. Before I could answer, Bethany slipped into my room.

“Wow! Look at you. You look fantastic,” I say. She does look amazing. Even at fourteen, you can see the Alpha in her. She stands tall and proud and the green dress she has on matches my tie and cummerbund, and the color of our eyes that we both got from our father. 1

“Yeah, you look smoking hot too, not that I’m surprised.

Listen, do you think Sloane and Slade are going to show up tonight?”

“I hope so. Slade should arrive with Alpha Roman and Luna Samara. If he does, mother won’t say a word, which is good. But I need you to help me keep watch for Sloane.

She may arrive alone or in a group with others.”

“I’ll keep a look out, but Bene, you know I can’t constantly watch the door. People are already arriving. Mom’s in a tizzy. She had to get hors d’oeuvres started early and you know how she wants to keep to her precious timeline.”

I look at my watch and frown. “It’s not even five-thirty yet.”

“Benedict, you are the catch of the season. EVERYONE is hoping to be mated to you.”

I fight a smile and begin to saunter toward my sister. She frowns at me. “What are you doing?””Are YOU hoping to be mated to me?” I growl softly.

“Eww, gross! Does that actually work on she-wolves?” she asks.

“Every time.”

“Does it work on Sloane Hartwell?” she asks with mock innocence.

grin at my sister. “No, it does not.”

“Hmm, I like her more and more.”

“So do I,” I say, holding out my arm to her. She grabs my sleeve, looking at my cufflinks.

“You’re wearing them,” she says softly, looking at the cufflinks.

“Of course. My favorite person in the world gave them to me.”

” love you, Bene. I really hope you find her tonight and that she’s as amazing as the mate you deserve.”

I smile but don’t respond. Now that the idea of being mated to Sloane has gotten in my head, I’ve found myself comparing every she-wolf i know to her and none of them measure up. Not even close.
