She wanted to go over and teach these two a lesson for casually discussing someone else, especially when the person in question was right there. But before she could do anything. Maggie had already stopped her.

Maggie calmly shook her head and said. “It’s okay.”

Maybe she didn’t have much of a personality, or maybe she was just ordinary. But she knew who she was. Whether or not others liked her didn’t matter that much to her.

After Rex and his friend finished their conversation, they drank their water, put their cups down, and left.

Jessica was fuming. “I used to think Rex was a connoisseur of tea, that he had some character, that he was interesting. I didn’t expect even him to be charmed by Julia!”

Before Maggie could respond, a sleazy–looking man walked over toward them. He and Jessica knew each other.

His eyes, filled with lust, lingered on Maggie as he smiled. “Jessie, is this your friend?”

Before he could continue, Jessica immediately knew his intentions. “What kind of person are you to eye my friend? Get lost!”

The man’s expression darkened. “Jessica, you-

Jessica White shot him a sharp, threatening glare.

The White family wasn’t to be trifled with, and the man quickly realized he couldn’t provoke her, so he backed off and left.

Jessica took a big gulp of her drink, clearly angry. “This is the, what, fifth or sixth man tonight trying to hit on you? And why is it always these trashy guys? Why is it that all the decent ones are so into Julia?”

Maggie didn’t respond immediately. She gave a slight smile, patting her back to help her calm down.

She was about to speak, maybe to explain that Julia was indeed impressive and outstanding, but before she could, Jessica’s expression suddenly turned cold.

Maggie followed her gaze and saw Julia standing not far away, holding two cups of water. She didn’t know when Julia had arrived, but judging by the smile on her lips, Maggie and Jessica both felt certain that Julia had overheard Rex and his friend’s

conversation.

When their eyes met, Julia’s smile deepened. She didn’t say anything, but with a cold and disdainful glance at Maggie, she turned and walked away.

“Damn it!”

Jessica was furious, her hands clenched into fists as though she wanted to rush up and tear Julia apart.

“She’s just the daughter of a mistress, and she’s also the mistress herself! What’s she so proud of? And ‘the one everyone loves–I think she’s just a pile of crap, ugh!”

Maggie poured her another glass of water and asked, “What do you mean, ‘the one everyone loves“?

“Julia, Jessica spat. “Like what Yves Jolly, Rex’s friend, just said those second–generation heirs with heads full of nonsense in the circle, for some reason, they’re all completely enchanted by her.

Now everyone’s calling her the one everyone loves, the kind of person who everyone falls for!”

Jessica kept grumbling. “But the idiots saying this, fine. What really gets me is even Franklin and Rex-”

Jessica paused as she realized she might have said something that might upset Maggie. She immediately stopped and said, “Wait, no, I mean… Mag. I’m just…”

Maggie shook her head. “I’m fine.”

Since childhood, with people like Logan, Lauren, and even Old Madam Brown all turning their backs on her, and in the past two years, Franklin falling head over heels for her, and even Franklin wanting her to be his mother…

Through all of it, Maggie had never spoken to anyone about how she truly felt.
