Chapter 315

Glen asked, He never showed up?

Yeah.Another colleague chimed in. That’s why many of think Miss Miller must have already divorced her husband. I mean, it’s been more than half a year, and she hasn’t even mentioned him once.

Exactly.

It did seem possible.

If Maggie wasn’t divorced, how could Jimmy be chasing after her so openly?

Still, Glen couldn’t calm the storm in his heart.

He’d never imagined that Maggie had been married before.

Noticing his distracted expression, Maggie looked up from her work in the office. What’s wMaggie?

I heard you’ve been married beforeis that true?

That’s what Glen wanted to ask.

But asking about a superior’s private life at workmaybe once or twice it’s fine, but too often and it just crosses the

line.

He snapped back to attention and simply said, Nothing.

That afternoon, Maggie received a phone call.

After hanging up, just before the workday ended, she said to Johnny, I might not be in until the afternoon. tomorrow. Could you attend the morning meeting for me?

Of course, no problem. Then he asked, Something come up?

My mother’s going in for a checkup at the hospital. I want to go with her.

Johnny didn’t know about Sally’s deteriorating condition. He just assumed it was a routine checkup. Alright. Go- ahead, leave the company to me.

Maggie nodded and left the office.

The next morning, Maggie, her grandmother, and Helen all arrived early at the hospital.

Even after they got there, they could only follow from a distance, afraid to let Sally see them.

During exams, Sally would become inexplicably agitated, like a madwoman, thrashing and fighting back. It often took multiple staff members to hold her down just to get through the procedures.

She went through more than a dozen different tests.

Afterward, she left the hospital with the nursing home staff

Her grandmother, whose health wasn’t great either, also left Maggie stayed behind with the care team to wait for the results.

Most of the results wouldn’t be available until the afternoon or even the next day.

But the preliminary ones already painted a grim picture.

After hearing the doctor’s report, Maggie felt a heavy weight sink in her chest.

She said her goodbyes and headed downstairs to leave. But just as she stepped into the hospital lobby, she heard a

voice cry out-

Mom!

Her steps froze.

She clutched her purse a little tighter, resisting the urge to turn her head. Just as she was about to pretend she hadn’t heard, Isabella ran up from the side and wrapped her arms around her waist.

Mom!

Maggie turned slightly, about to speak, when she saw Franklin standing in the distance among the crowd.

She pulled her gaze back and looked down at Isabella, hearing the girl cough.
