**TITLE: Dreams Folding Into Broken Time**
**Chapter 115**
“Easy to control? Easy to deceive? Is that what this has come to?” Dean’s voice dripped with sarcasm, the bitterness evident in every syllable. “But remember how you used to call them sacrifices? Sacrifices I had to endure to prove my love for you. And what did you do in return? You got pregnant by someone else and tried to weave a web of lies around it.” His words sliced through the air like a knife. Suddenly, his gaze snapped back to me, and he advanced with quick, determined strides, each step radiating tension.
My heart raced, a wild drumbeat in my chest. I stumbled back instinctively, but Roman was there, his presence like a fortress, pulling me protectively behind him. I could feel the heat radiating from his body, a wall of strength between me and the storm that was Dean.
“Back off,” Roman growled, his voice low and dangerous, a warning that crackled in the air. His eyes, dark and fierce, promised retribution. “You’ve got three seconds before I make this ugly.”
Dean hesitated, caught off guard, then took several cautious steps back, but his finger shot out, pointing at me with the precision of a dagger.
“You made me break up with Savannah, Chloe. You told me she was cheating on me with some guy named Declan from high school. Isn’t that right?” His voice dripped with accusation, and then he added, “Now I’m guessing that was another lie.”
“What?” My voice tore from my throat, raw and incredulous. The weight of his words crashed down on me, suffocating. “Chloe, what is he talking about?! I never dated Declan! I never even—That was you!”
Every pair of eyes in the room turned to Chloe, who looked like a cornered animal, panic flashing across her face. She darted her gaze left and right, desperately seeking an escape route that, unfortunately, didn’t exist.
Dean’s voice boomed, “Tell your sister the truth! Tell her you wrote that text. Tell her it was your idea to dump her on her birthday. Go on! Chloe! You love the spotlight, don’t you? Well, here it is! Cameras are everywhere. Tell them!” His voice reverberated, nearly shaking the chandeliers above us.
My heart thundered in my ears, drowning out the chaos around me. My palms felt slick with sweat, and my knees threatened to buckle beneath me. I was grateful for my bare feet; the heels I had chosen would have sent me crashing to the floor. My breath came in shallow, ragged gasps, a desperate attempt to steady myself.
“Chloe.” My voice cracked as I stepped out from behind Roman, forcing myself to meet her gaze. “Why? What did I ever do to you?”
