From Best Friend To Fiancé (Savannah and Roman) novel Chapter 254

**TITLE: Dreams Folding Into Broken Time**
**Chapter 254**

**Chapter 150: Movie-level Romantic**

“Look at this!” I exclaimed, extending my hand toward Alyssa and Lizzie, my heart racing with excitement. The ring I wore caught the light, radiating a brilliance that seemed almost out of place in the stark, clinical environment surrounding us. It sparkled like a fragment of the stars, a beacon of joy amidst the sterile walls of the hospital.

Lizzie’s eyes widened in disbelief, her reaction akin to someone who had just been handed a rare celestial object. “Holy shit, Savannah. It’s enormous!” She grabbed my wrist, twisting my hand toward the overhead light, squinting as if she were trying to decipher a complex code. “Wait—hold on a second. Did you lose the other one? Why did he get you a new one?”

Alyssa leaned in, her curiosity piqued. “I was thinking the same thing. This ring is stunning, Sav. But what happened to the one you used to wear? It was beautiful too. Please tell me you didn’t lose it.”

My heart sank for a moment. They had no idea. None of them knew the truth.

The first ring, the staged proposal, the entire façade of our engagement—it was all neatly tucked away in the recesses of my mind, buried under the weight of everything that had shifted between Roman and me. Our story was now ours alone—intimate, flawed, and sacred in a way that only something truly genuine and hard-won could be.

I had no intention of ever dragging that past back into the light.

“Nothing happened to it,” I replied smoothly, retracting my hand as if to shield myself from the probing questions. “Roman just wanted me to have something that felt uniquely mine. Not something that belonged to his mother. He said he wanted me to have something new, something personal.”

Alyssa’s face lit up with a warm smile. “That’s actually really sweet. He’s a genuinely good guy, Savannah,” she said softly, her voice laced with sincerity.

“Sweet? Girl, this is straight out of a movie!” Lizzie exclaimed, clutching her chest as if she were about to swoon. “Can we just take a moment to appreciate the fact that he casually buys you another massive ring because he thought the first one wasn’t personal enough? Savannah, you are living my dream!” She grabbed my wrist once more, examining the ring as if it were a rare artifact, dramatically fanning herself as if she were about to faint from the sheer romance of it all.

From her hospital bed, my mother let out a soft, weak laugh, her voice fragile yet filled with warmth. “He’s treating you well, isn’t he, honey?” The question hung in the air, weighted with unspoken fears and lingering doubts.

“Of course he is,” Lizzie interjected before I could respond. “Auntie, just look at her! She’s glowing. I mean, literally glowing! The man is spoiling her rotten! And don’t even get me started on that Aston Martin he bought her back in New Hope—”

“Lizzie,” I said, trying to suppress a laugh, my heart lightening momentarily.

“What? It’s true!” she protested, throwing her hands up in exasperation. “The man is rich, gorgeous, and apparently obsessed with you. That’s the dream! That’s the standard!”

Laughter erupted among us, and for a fleeting moment, the atmosphere transformed. The machines faded into the background, the sterile walls became inconsequential, and all that remained was warmth and connection.

“Yes, Mom,” I finally said, my smile softening. “Roman is treating me really well.”

She returned my smile, but there was a flicker of sadness in her eyes. “I’m so glad to hear that.” Her voice softened further, almost a whisper. “I feel like I failed you in that aspect, Savannah. You, Alyssa… even Chloe—my poor baby girl. I should have protected you girls better.”
