From Best Friend To Fiancé (Savannah and Roman) novel Chapter 260

**Chapter 153: We’re Crazy**

Savannah

“Reese?! You’re actually bringing Reese back into this house?” My voice shattered against the cool bathroom tiles, the sound reverberating back at me before I could even catch my breath. “Have you completely lost your mind, Roman? Your brother is a psychopath!”

Roman leaned against the doorway, his posture heavy, as if the weight of the world had settled onto his shoulders. His shirt hung loosely, half undone, and his tie dangled carelessly from his neck. His eyes, weary and shadowed, looked at me in a way that stirred a conflicting desire within me—part of me wanted to shake him awake, while another part just wanted to cradle him close.

He ran a hand through his tousled hair, a gesture that spoke volumes of his frustration. “I’m really sorry, Sav. But he’s the only one I know who can really get through to Penny.”

A sharp, disbelieving laugh escaped my lips as I yanked the towel off my body. “Of course. Everything revolves around getting back at Penny, doesn’t it?” I tossed the towel aside, the fabric landing unceremoniously on the floor, and twisted the shower handle. Hot water erupted from the showerhead, enveloping the room in a thick veil of steam. “You could’ve done something—literally anything else, Roman!”

He let out a deep sigh, the kind that seemed to carry the weight of his worries. “Baby, come on. You know she’s going to play the ‘defenseless woman’ card. If she spins this story for the media, I’ll never escape it. I’ll be painted as the villain.”

I turned to face him, the steam swirling around me like a protective barrier. “Well,” I replied dryly, “aren’t you already?”

A half-smile crept onto his lips, a combination of charm and irritation that always left me unsettled. “I guess I am.” His gaze dropped, lingering on me shamelessly. “But if I’m going to take on that role, at least I have the most incredible woman standing beside me.” He licked his lips, a hungry glint in his eyes. “Damn, Sav, you’ve got the most amazing body I’ve ever seen. But I’m still going to confront Penny for the way she spoke to you.”

I rolled my eyes, trying to suppress the warmth spreading through me. “Flattery won’t solve this,” I warned, stepping under the spray of water, letting it cascade over my skin.

Roman pushed himself off the doorframe, stepping closer. “I’m not trying to fix it. I’m just asking you to trust me.”

“Trust?” I shot him a skeptical look over my shoulder. “That’s a dangerous word in this house lately.”
