**TITLE: Her Rise 414**
**Chapter 414: A Wild Night**
Kit’s expression was a storm of frustration, his brow furrowing deeply as he struggled to maintain his balance.
Harriet stood there, her mind racing with thoughts. Should she call a cab for him? But before she could make a decision, his raspy voice broke through the haze of her contemplation. “I want you to take me home.”
Her brow furrowed even more at his commanding tone, and a shadow of irritation crossed her features. I’ve already left that job behind. He’s not my boss anymore. Why is he acting like one?
Suppressing her urge to argue with her inebriated former superior, Harriet bit her tongue, choosing instead to keep her thoughts to herself. With a resigned sigh, she stepped closer to him, reaching out to steady his swaying figure. “Alright, since we know each other and I’m headed that way, I’ll take you home.”
Harriet was all too familiar with Kit’s residence; he didn’t live at the Rice Residence like most of their colleagues. Instead, he resided in a sleek, luxurious apartment in the heart of downtown—a place she had only seen from a distance when she delivered documents there once. The thought of entering his private space had felt inappropriate at the time, but now the situation was different.
With tremendous effort, she managed to pull him along, half-dragging and half-carrying him to the car. The cool breeze that wafted through the open window felt refreshing against her flushed cheeks, a stark contrast to the heat radiating from Kit’s body. He slumped back in the passenger seat, eyes closed, his brow knitted in discomfort. He murmured incoherently, lost in a fog of drunkenness. This sharp, efficient Kit she knew from the office was nowhere to be found; instead, he appeared vulnerable, stripped of his usual bravado.
As she drove, Harriet stole a glance at him, shaking her head in disbelief. “You know you can’t handle your drink, and yet here you are, drowning in it…”
It took every ounce of her strength to get him out of the car and up to his apartment. After a small battle to retrieve his keys from his pocket, she finally managed to unlock the door.
Inside, the apartment was a stark contrast to the vibrant life she led; it was modern and cold, everything meticulously arranged yet devoid of any warmth or personal touch. It felt more like a showroom than a home, and there wasn’t even a trace of a woman’s presence to suggest he had ever shared this space with anyone.
Harriet recalled her research into Kit’s life while assisting Zaden and Athena—he had no girlfriend, no close friends of the opposite sex. It was as if he lived in a bubble, isolated from the world outside.
After what felt like an exhausting eternity, she finally managed to get him onto the bed, her breath coming in ragged gasps. Just as she turned to leave, a strong, hot hand seized her wrist!
“Don’t go…” Kit’s eyes fluttered open, his gaze hazy yet intense. In a moment of surprising strength, he yanked her down onto the bed. Caught off guard, she gasped as she tumbled into the soft sheets.
“Ah!”
The intoxicating scent of alcohol mingled with the warmth radiating from his body, enveloping her. Kit’s arms wrapped around her, and his lips, burning with an urgency she had never witnessed before, found their way to her neck and cheek, wild and hungry. In an instant, all her senses were overwhelmed.
“Kit! Let go! Look at me! Do you even know who I am?” Harriet shouted, struggling against his grip.
“I know… you’re Harriet…” he slurred, his voice thick with confusion. Yet, his hold only tightened, as if he were clinging to a lifeline in a storm.
