“Excuse me?” Knight asks.

I look up at the intruder again and feel myself growing angrier and angrier by the millisecond.

“Little Mermaid,” he grins.

I swing without thinking about it. My fist connects with the center of his face with a sickening crack. When I reach for him again, Mr. Knightly grabs the inside of my elbow and pulls me back.

“Ah, ah,” he warns disapprovingly.

“You owe me six hundred and fifty thousand dollars, you piece of shit,” I growl.

“You broke my nose,” he turns onto his side, clutching his face. Blood trickles through his fingers as he tries to catch his breath.

“This is Jose?” Mr. Knightly laughs. “Oh, shit. The man, the myth, the legend.” his laughter turns sinister as he walks past his son. He kicks him to turn

him onto his back. “You little fuck.”

“Alpha Knightly,” he says, sitting up. He pops his nose back into place and shakes the blood off his hand.

“Joseph Goodwill?” Knightly growls and then turns to look at me with disbelief. That’s what that feels like. At least I don’t have whatever is broken in his head to try to be friends with someone I slept with. “You fucked around with Joseph Goodwill?”

“This is monumental, Rogue King. How does that feel?” the cocky fuck laughs.

“What is happening?” I ask.

“Joseph found his mate while she was on top of Nathan here,” Mr. Knightly slaps him on his back. “Riding his dick. So, naturally, they hate one another.

And action.”

“Nothing to see here. Get out,” Allison shouts.

I let out a heavy breath and groan angrily. Mr. Knightly is making this funny, and I don’t want to brush it off as a joke. This whole situation is messed up. I was kind of hoping Joseph had died with some of the humans that were trampled when they were informed that they were now essentially pets of the packs, or they were welcomed to run off, where vampires would take them to be their bloodbags. Am I horrible for that? No, he put me through hell.

“What the fuck are you even doing here?” I ask Joseph.

“Alpha Joseph Goodwill,” he introduces himself formally. “I run Blue Stone across the way and came to offer some assistance.”

Knight and I both burst into laughter. He stands there with blood smeared all over his face and hands.

“Yuck, he stinks more than these wolves,” Ayrie pinches her nose with one hand and waves the other in front of her to swat the stink away.

“We can be civil about this, Phoebe. There’s no need to dig up old shit,” he has the audacity to say.

Midnight surfaces, pushing against my skin. My head swims as I try to fight her back.

“I’d run if I were you,” Mr. Knightly warns him. “There are four of them and only one of you.”

“We can’t kill him. There’s a California state alliance in place, and if we break it. It’s every alpha for him or herself.” Allison says.

“We have to calm down,” I tell Midnight.

“No,” I feel her roar from inside of me. “We have been nice to all of them! EAT!!!”

Joseph stumbles back. Knight is by my side before my legs completely give out.

“Breathe, Baby. You’re okay,” he says gently.

“Get off,” I push him away weakly.

“Get the fuck out of here, Goodwill. Thanks for telling us where

you are,” he sighs and helps me up.

Joseph stares at me and then at the twins before turning away to leave. He takes the wolves he brought with him. Midnight shifts inside of me. Kind of like when a huge dog rollie–pollies with no spatial awareness of its size. I groan until she settles down.

“You’ve got to stop doing that.” I choke out.

-He started it. She growls.

“So, what were you going to do? Kill him at the expense of our entire pack? I’ve taught you better than that, young lady.” She huffs at me. “No liver for

you.

-What? That’s not fair!–

“That is your punishment for what you just did to me. There’s a tiny bean in here with us. You could have hurt her.”

-I would never do that.- she complains.

“That is your punishment, and that’s final. Do you understand me? For a week. No liver.”

She doesn’t say anything else and pulls back. I catch my breath and stand up. Ayrie comes over to me with a wet towel. She takes my hand and pulls me over to have a seat. When I’m seated, she places the cold towel on my head.

“You’re hot. It’s better not to be too hot,” she explains and then turns to glare at Knight. “Bad Daddy. You made Mommy Midnight very angry. She almost eats my friends.”

“Ayrie!” Melody screams when she appears at the entrance with Derek.

“Ah! Melody!” Ayrie screams with her. The two of them run to each other as if they haven’t seen each other in ages. They interlock fingers and bounce

around in a circle.

“What the hell is going on?” Derek asks.

“Alpha King.” The betas that stayed behind all take a knee in front of him.

“Crazy Eloise Lockwood,” Knight answers. “And our neighboring alpha. We’re a

e already planning a counterattack.”

“The neighboring alpha didn’t do anything to the pack. We dated a long time ago. He does owe me money, though. It would be cool if you told him he has to pay me back.”
