Girl Get Rid Of That Jerk (Williams and Shawn) novel Chapter 358

Shawn was having a tough go of it lately. Things at Reynolds Group were a mess, with major projects hitting one snag after another. The investment his friend had talked him into was tanking too, with partners jumping ship left and right. Shawn was swamped, buried under a mountain of meetings and obligations.

That afternoon, Kate strolled into his office. She was looking different—no makeup, no perfume, just her natural self.

"Shawn, I've got a surprise for you," she announced, her smile wide and genuine.

But Shawn wasn't in the mood for surprises. Buried in paperwork, he barely glanced up. "Make it quick, Kate. I'm swamped."

With a sly grin, Kate hopped onto the edge of his desk. "This is gonna make your day," she said, pulling out a medical report and handing it over. "You're going to be a dad, Shawn."

Shawn's head snapped up, eyes fixed on the paper as he snatched it away. "What did you just say?"

Kate was practically glowing, her voice trembling with excitement. "I'm pregnant, Shawn. You're going to be a father!"

Shawn's face turned stone-cold in an instant. His eyes bored into the paper, and his voice was sharp. "Get rid of it. We can't have this baby."

Kate's smile dropped, replaced by shock. "You can't be serious! That's our child! Why would you say something like that?"

With a bitter laugh, Shawn replied, "I just don't want it, simple as that."

"Shawn!"

Kate slid off the desk, her finger jabbing at him angrily. "You're such a jerk!"

"Don't make me repeat myself," he said, his eyes like ice. "End it."

"I won't!" Kate shot back, her voice fierce. "This is my child too, and if I want to have it, I will. I can be a single mom if I have to!"

"How much do you want?" Shawn asked, his tone cool and detached.

"Allison's in court this afternoon," the receptionist said, checking her watch. "It should be wrapping up now, so she’ll be back soon. Please have a seat."

Kate nodded, "Thanks."

Once alone, Kate sent the pregnancy report to Shawn's mom, Helen.

[Aunt Helen, I'm pregnant, and Shawn says he doesn't want the baby...]

Helen called back quickly. Kate let it ring a few times before picking up, taking her time.

"Kate, are you really pregnant?" Helen's voice was brimming with joy and hope.

Kate tossed her hair back, a silent smile on her lips. Then, with a feigned sob, she said, "Yes, Helen, I've been craving sour stuff, so they say it's a boy. But... Shawn doesn't want this baby... sob... sob..."
