“It’s my fault…” Joy’s eyes welled up with tears, her voice breaking. “The bullet wasn’t aimed at Allison. She pushed me out of harm’s way to save me, and that’s how she got shot… I’m so sorry, it should’ve been me…”

“Mr. Javier, these weren’t just any criminals,” Brooklyn said seriously. “I fought with them, and it was clear they were trained mercenaries. I even caught sight of a tattoo on one of them—it’s the mark of the biggest gang in America.”

Joshua’s eyes were dark with regret. “Because of me.”

“I’m sorry, Javier,” Joshua said, his voice low. “Before the elections in America, I had everything planned out. I went there myself to handle Chris. Everything was set, but someone on my team betrayed us and tipped Chris off. He left a decoy in America and escaped through an underground tunnel.”
