Girl Get Rid Of That Jerk (Williams and Shawn) novel Chapter 405

After Allison got out of the hospital, she dove straight back into work, spending her days and nights untangling the Fisher Corporation cases.

These weren’t your average cases, either—they were big, messy, and high stakes, with thick stacks of evidence to sort through. Even though someone had already organized everything once, Allison insisted on going over every single file herself, just to be sure.

Allison was nothing if not driven. The moment she was discharged, she threw herself into work, barely stopping to catch her breath. Most nights, she stayed late at the firm, her office glowing long after everyone else had gone home.

One night, her phone rang.

“Miss Carter, Grant still refuses to sign the divorce agreement. He tore it up. This afternoon, he and Cindy got into another huge fight. Cindy’s already hired Patricia to represent her for the divorce.”

Allison stood at her office’s floor-to-ceiling windows on the twenty-second floor, looking out at the city sparkling with neon lights. In the glass, she caught a glimpse of her own reflection—calm, composed, not a hair out of place.

“Alright, I got it,” she said.

She hung up and immediately printed out a new set of client contracts and authorization forms.

With her car keys in hand, Allison locked up the firm for the night and stepped into the elevator. Brooklyn, her assistant, followed behind.

Allison pulled out her phone and dialed a number.

“Hello?” Grant’s voice came through, sharp and impatient.

“Mr. Reynolds, it’s Allison.”

“What do you want?” His irritation was obvious. “Haven’t you already messed up our family enough?”

Shawn’s suicide attempt had left Grant with nothing but resentment for Allison. And lately, Cindy hadn’t stopped telling him that Allison was the reason the Reynolds Group had gone bankrupt. Grant’s dislike for Allison had turned into outright hatred.
