Joshua just stood there, letting Allison kiss him—her kisses a little clumsy, all over the place—but he didn’t kiss her back. Not even a little.
A wave of frustration bubbled up inside Allison. She let go of his neck and steadied herself, heels pressing into the floor.
Joshua’s lips quirked in a lazy smile, his deep voice drifting down to her. “Why’d you stop?”
“You don’t want to kiss me,” Allison said, her tone flat.
She’d felt bad about making him hide in the bedroom earlier. This was her way of making it up to him, trying to cheer him up. But after a few kisses with zero response, she was starting to regret it. If he wasn’t into it, what was the point?
Joshua raised an eyebrow. “Did I say I didn’t want to?”
Allison puffed out her cheeks, clearly annoyed. “Then why didn’t you do anything? You didn’t even kiss me back.”
Joshua let out a low chuckle. “Allie, you almost never kiss me first. I was just... enjoying it.”
Allison huffed, turning her face away and refusing to look at him.
Joshua’s smile grew. “Are you mad?”
She kept her head turned, silent and stubborn—the words “I’m mad” practically written on her face.
Joshua didn’t seem bothered. His gaze softened, and his voice turned gentle, coaxing. “What am I going to do? I haven’t had enough yet. How about you kiss me again? I swear I’ll kiss you back this time.”
“No,” Allison shot back.
Joshua laughed softly, then suddenly scooped her up, carrying her a few steps before setting her down gently on the bed.
Before Allison could react, Joshua dropped to his knees in front of her. The next thing she knew, he was leaning in, capturing her mouth with his.
Her mind went totally blank for a second.
He was on his knees.
He’d never done that before.
A man like Joshua—always in control, always so sure of himself—lowering himself, asking for her kiss with a kind of raw vulnerability. How could any woman resist that?
The contrast made Allison’s heart tumble in her chest.
And just like that, she was gone, swept right up in him.
Where did he learn this? How was he so good at it?

With her answer, Joshua didn’t hold back.

Once they started, neither of them could stop.
Allison was swept under, lost in a wild, dizzying rush that stole all sense of time.
Night had fallen.

Afterwards, Allison was spent, too tired to move.
Sweat dampened her hair and left a slick sheen on her skin.
Joshua gently brushed the damp hair from her forehead and pressed a kiss there, looking completely satisfied.
He let her rest for a while, then finally scooped her up and carried her off to the bathroom for a shower.
