Chapter 27
Evangelina’s POV
I am pulled out of the memory, looking at Nali and Tali. I am processing what happened and what to do next.
“Did you hear the alarm bell go off at all when you ran?” I ask. They look at each other then shake their heads, no. Thank goddess. That is less of a chance they will follow the scent here.
“We also rolled around in mud to mask our scents.” Nali says, seeming to know my thoughts and I nod my head in acknowledgment.
“Why didn’t you tell your brother what happened before? Maybe get you a new tutor?” I ask and she looks down in sadness.
“I was going to, but then Hadley was always around. I wasn’t going to tell him with HER around.” Tali said in disgust.
“Well why did you run after the attack?” I ask and she looks at me like I am the dumb one.
“Well because I just killed one of our pack members and a royal can’t do that under any excuse. They need to report it and let our so–called justice system handle it.” She scoffed and my eyes rounded a little bit.
“You aren’t allowed to defend yourself?” I ask and she shakes her head.
“We are allowed to defend ourselves and that includes killing, but we can’t overkill. I would be punished for it then.” She says and my brows shoot up. What is that matter with them? Most people ‘overkill‘ when they are being threatened or attacked. It is one of the side effects of being human let alone wolf.
“What is the punishment?” I ask and she shrugs her shoulders. Then Nali spoke up.
“We don’t know. The punishment is only for the royal family because they think we should have more control over our wolves. Nobody in our family has overkilled a pack member. At least that we know of. That’s why we ran.” Nali says and I nod my head in understanding even though my brain cannot courehend that logic.
“Can we stay here? Please. We don’t want to go back.” Tali pleads and Nali adds a ‘please‘ in too. I sigh and look into their pleading eyes.
“Girls.” But before I could get any other words in, Nali interrupted me.
“PLEASE?! We hate it there. It’s not the same as it used to be. It’s like everybody is dead there, just going through the motions of the day. Here we were accepted and everybody is like family, even with a pack as big as this. We can train and learn more from you than we ever could there. Please.” Nali begs me.
“I need to take you back to the castle/Your brother will be looking for you and they can’t find us. Or we will all be in danger.” I answer and they look down sadly. I stand up and smile reassuringly. “Let’s get you both cleaned up and get something to eat then we can head back.” I say and they nod sadly while following my lead and standing. Before we reach the door it bursts open to reveal Linc and Marie. I look at them in alarm because they never charge into my office like this.
“Mate.” They both breathe out and I look at them in confusion. Then look behind me to see the girls frozen in place staring at them.
“Well this just got more complicated.” I say and sigh as everybody stays frozen in their place. I see the

confusion in Marie and Linc’s eyes as well as the disappointment in the girls‘ eyes.
“WHAT THE HELL IS WRONG WITH YOU TW

“Girls go get cleaned up. I will get you both some new clothes and we can all sit down to talk.” I say and they nod their heads sadly and walk out of the door. Marie and Linc, not making a move to stop them. I sigh and go to close the door behind the girls then make my way back in front of the two dumba*ses in the room.
I yell at them and then snap their eyes to me and slump over.
“They. They’re so.. Young.” Linc says and I sigh and go over to my desk, pulling out a bottle of witchshine! keep locked in a safe drawer. This is the hard stuff. Witches make it and it basically gives a supernatural effect like a normal 40 proof alcohol for humans. I pour three glasses and hand them out. We raise our glasses slightly and down the shot. I pour three more and Marie shoots hers while Linc takes a seat on the sofa and sips it, then stares at it.
“They just turned 18.” Linc says and Marie nods in agreement.
“There is only a 10 year age difference.” I say and Marie grunts while Linc cringes a little.
“12.” Linc corrects me for him. We are all close in age. Linc is 30, Marie is 29 and I am 32.
“You know that there are mates who are over 25 years apart right?” I say and they nod their heads knowingly. We hear movement behind the door and the click of the handle turn. We all look to see Maxwell walking in. He is really the only person who doesn’t acknowledge the knocking rule at all, unless he knows that I have an
ops afte important meeting. He stops after a few steps into the room and looks at us with slight surprise.
“Well what’s the party for and why wasn’t I invited?” He asks and his face drops when nobody laughs. He closes the door then the distance to us warrily. “What’s wrong?” He asks.
“They found their mates and are wallowing because they’re younger than them.” I say and Linc and Marie growl at me, while Maxwell laughs.
“How much younger?” He asks in a light voice.
“11 and 12 years.” I answer while the two wallowers glare at me.
“That’s it?” Maxwell asks, looking towards the two sitting on my couch.
“What do you mean that’s it? They’re practically children.” Linc snaps and Maxwell clicks his tongue in amusement.
“You know that I found Melissa when I was 40? She was 19 when I met her and the goddess blessed us with our bond.” Maxwell states and I look at the two fishes on my couch with mouths open wide.
“And it didn’t bother you?” Marie asks.
“I did at first. I mean a 21 year age difference is a little shocking, and it took time to get used to. I realized that I was the one who was childish for thinking that a 21 year age difference makes a difference to the
Ome between us and the ones who we were meant to spend goddess. Melissa was my other half and still is. Yes, we had our challenges, but since we can live to be over 200 years old, why should we let a little age gap the rest of our lives together with?” He asks and I see Marie and Linc nodding their heads, then Marie looks down.
“I saw the disappointment in Tali’s eyes. I don’t think she wants a rogue for a mate.” Marie says.
“I saw it in Nali’s eyes too.” Linc says.

“I don’t think that being rogues have anything to do with it. They were here all summer, if they had an issue with rogues they wouldn’t have made it here.” I say and they shake their heads.
